Job Description:

The Data Scientist I, Computational Biology is a contributor to the R&D team who is responsible for developing algorithms and software for visualization and analysis of NanoString data. This role requires a background in software engineering, algorithm development or application, biological interpretation of high-plex molecular data, and a history of engaging within the scientific community. This person will work with a team to develop analysis pipelines and tools for use with the NanoString SMI platform, and potentially future platforms. Creation of tools for interactive visualization will be emphasized. The work is highly cross-functional and will require working with research scientists, biostatisticians, software architects and technology developers. This person is expected to have strong verbal and written communication skills and will work as part of team while inventing and implementing new analysis tools.

This position reports to the Principal Biostatistician in the group.

Essential Functions:

Create software tools for interactive visualization of spatial single cell gene expression data
Create, refine, test and implement new methods for analysis of spatial single cell gene expression data
Analyze relevant spatial single cell gene expression datasets
Work with a team of other bioinformaticians and biostatisticians to contribute to pipelines for analysis of NanoString data
Maintain well annotated code and detailed records of analyses
Present results findings via written and oral reports to technical and non-technical audiences; participate in scientific discussions

Requirements (Education, Experience, Specific Skills):

MS or Ph.D. with background in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Genomics, or related field
0-5+ years of professional software development experience depending on education qualifications
Strong communication skills; ability to summarize scientific data and algorithms for expert and non-expert audiences
Track record of building complex and well-written software with R and Shiny
Experience analyzing spatial data
Familiarity with gene expression data analysis, common bioinformatics software tools and standard biostatistical methodologies
Basic domain knowledge within a relevant biological area (oncology, immunology, spatial biology etc.) required; advanced knowledge preferred
