Versar's Natural Resources Team Columbia has an upcoming opening for a part-time on-call entry-level scientist to assist the company in meeting clients' needs associated with watershed and estuarine monitoring and assessment programs. Tasks will primarily relate to sampling onboard a vessel but might also include other fieldwork such as on-site storm monitoring, lab work, field equipment management, writing assignments, data compilation, and data quality control.

The successful applicant will be part of the Versar team that meets clients' needs related to the following tasks:

Benthic sampling
Water quality monitoring
Fisheries sampling

Experience or familiarity with the following is desired:

Working onboard a vessel for long hours
Water quality monitoring using multiparameter sondes (YSI, Hach, etc.)
Storm runoff monitoring
Illicit discharge detection and elimination
Continuous flow rate, rainfall, and water quality parameters logging
Manual and automated storm sampling using ISCO equipment
Biological monitoring using Maryland Biological Stream Survey (MBSS) methods
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications Flowlink, HOBOware, and Global Water software

On-Call status will require occasional availability to work evening and overnight hours, and weekends, as your pre-determined schedule allows, and as weather conditions warrant. Frequency and length of shift (hours per) will vary and be determined on a case-by-case basis but will often be a minimum of 10 hours per day and up to 4 days per week. The ability and flexibility to work with a variety of staff, projects, and task timelines is critical to this position. This position will be active from August through October 2021 and may be extended as candidate availability and other project needs allow.

Good physical health, the ability to conduct fieldwork in inclement weather conditions, and the ability to lift up to 30 pounds in order to perform field tasks is required. A valid driver's license and dependable transportation are also required. Salary commensurate upon experience.
