What We're Looking For
Applies diversified knowledge and advanced scientific principles, theories, concepts and techniques of archaeology lead all phases of a project including planning, investigation, and recommendations.
Primary Focus Will Include:
- Conduct cultural resources investigations to support project planning and permitting.
- Provide senior-level expertise in archaeology to support the cultural resources practice group
- Lead archaeological investigations as an SOI- qualified Principal Investigator.
- Direct the work of HNTB-hired subconsultants deliver cultural resources work products.
- Conduct archaeological monitoring.
- Assist HNTB prepare environmental documentation for federal, state and local agencies.
- Assist HNTB's Senior Architectural Historian prepare and deliver built-environment work products.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- 10 years or more of professional experience - in archaeology and cultural resource management
- Masters of Arts or Masters of Science degree in Anthropology with a specialization in Archaeology, or a Masters degree in Archaeology or Cultural Resources Management with a specialization in Archaeology.
- Certified member in good standing with the Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA).
- Project experience in Washington, Oregon, and California. Experience in other western states is helpful.
- Experience leading field teams of archaeologists and Native American monitors, and if necessary, work solo in such a capacity.
- Ability to conduct research, manage projects and team members, and organize and execute fieldwork and post-field laboratory work and report preparation.
- Assist other members of HNTB's cultural resources team with preparation of scopes of work, cost estimates, and proposal elements.
What You'll Need
Essential Responsibilities:
- Supervises staff in the collection and analyzing of data obtained at the proposed project site.
- Examines and evaluates present and potential scientific conditions as they relate to the planning, design, and construction of projects.
- Supervises the preparation of reports, graphs, and diagrams on scientific aspects relating to specific projects.
- Provides technical support to project managers as situations arise during the construction of project that require scientific assistance.
- Performs on the job review of work being accomplished to ensure the details of construction are in compliance with design criteria and scientific specifications and determines the necessity for additional investigations, studies, or alternate plans or designs.
- Prioritizes, participates in marketing aspects and schedules new and on-going projects.
- Prepares permits for public and private clients with respect to acquisition and compliance for wetland impacts, bridge construction, threatened/endangered species.
- Assists in organizing, preparation of public meetings.
- Attends various meetings with clients, other engineering firms and staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Archeology, Anthropology or related field
- 10 years related experience
- 8 years related experience (with Master's degree in Natural Sciences)
