As an Environmental Technician, you will understand the impacts of industrial activity on the environment and identify ways to manage, minimize or eliminate them, along with being responsibility to manage the vital data and statistics relating to the objectives. You will work to identify and implement environmental improvements across our operations, accelerating progress towards our sustainability goals, including (but not limited to) water, waste and biodiversity management, ensuring compliance with local regulations and in line with best practice environmental management. This role is based in Ogden, UT.

The Environmental Technician role requires you to:
  • Have knowledge and past exposure to environmental management systems (e.g. ISO 14001), regulatory requirements and compliance
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and best practice
  • Work to support the delivery of environmental improvements in our operations, including supporting the administration of, and owning the supporting data management to help the business to deliver a reduction in water consumption, year on year reductions in waste generated, waste hierarchy improvements, elimination of the use of solvent-based paints, and biodiversity improvements in our operations
  • Ability to be assigned projects and at times, work directly with key stakeholders to develop appropriate management systems to ensure that all employees are aware of their statutory duties and responsibilities, and provide advice as and when required
  • Support leadership/management teams to ensure compliance with related Group policies and procedures
  • Build Environmental Management Plans in alignment with Group and local legal requirements
  • Support the development and delivery of water management plans and efficiency programs
  • Support the review of site waste management arrangements to identify improvement actions which promote the waste hierarchy and support the business in working towards zero waste to landfill
  • Ensure environmental considerations are integrated into risk assessments and site waste management plans
  • Support the submission of timely and accurate environmental data
  • Raise the profile of environmental management on sites and across the organization
  • Liaise with relevant bodies such as regulatory authorities and certification bodies in relation to environmental compliance, environmental management systems, or the delivery of environmental improvements
  • As required, engage with and co-ordinate external specialists to deliver specific industry led advice, services or other support that contributes to environmental improvements in our operations
  • Working with key stakeholders, reviewing operational and capital investments in relation to environmental risks and opportunities
  • Willingness to work across the region you're supporting

The Environmental Technician role will support local teams to:
  • Review environmental information and data to identify trends and areas for improvement
  • Be assigned campaigns to help implement in agreement with the regional leadership
  • Timely completion of regular environmental reporting requirements, in line with company & local requirements
  • Contribute to the implementation of our Sustainability Strategy
  • Produce environmental plans, procedures and associated documentation/permits or exemptions that are required and ensure they are implemented and integrated into local environmental management systems

The Environmental Technician role will collaborate with colleagues to:
  • Carry out regular inspections of sites and workplaces to determine whether work is being carried out in accordance with relevant Company policies, procedures and relevant legislation and to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Be a key contributor or lead technical at times to support for any environmental incident investigations
  • Give advice to Operatives and Managers on environmental issues improving workforce awareness, knowledge and competency of environmental issues through tool box talks, town halls and workshops during site visits
  • Develop and implement environmental management systems such as ISO 14001with internal support


Required Skills
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability and experience of applying these to deliver sustainability improvements
  • A proven ability to identify, analyze and objectively solve problems
  • Good inter-personal skills, with an ability to develop relationships at all levels of the organisation and drive change using influence, including training on environment related topics
  • Results driven, self-motivated and able to work well individually or as part of a team
  • Ability to prepare quality written documentation as part of a technical team
  • Willingness to provide guidance and constructive feedback to colleagues on environmental management issues
  • Ability to work across either multiple sites or geographies
  • Passion to drive positive change

Required Experience
  • Degree level qualification in a related subject, such as Environmental Sciences, Environmental Management or similar
  • Proven experience in environmental management
  • Experience or some exposure with wide range of environmental permits and licences (water and/or built environment) is desirable.
  • Experience or some exposure with working with manufacturing sites to improve their environmental management
  • Experience in the development and/or delivery of environmental guidance notes, operational control procedures and awareness campaign materials
