A NIH-funded postdoctoral position in the laboratory of a Primary Investigator (PI) in the Department of Microbiology is available for highly motivated candidates who are interested in prion diseases. Our group studies prion strain biology, prion pathogenesis and the environmental fate of prions. We are interested in training a motivated postdoctoral fellow in areas of prion strain evolution using a combination of cutting-edge in vitro techniques and in vivo transmission studies. We are interested in understanding the molecular basis of how prion strains evolve and adapt to new environments and how strain tropism, strain interference and strain dynamics contribute to this process. The candidate will be expected to develop the project independently and will also have the opportunity to interact and participate in other studies of our multidisciplinary group of prion researchers. Our group highly values creativity and independence in a collaborative and collegial academic environment.
