Position: Environmental Health & Safety Manager

Overview: ITC Defense requires an Environmental Health & Safety Manager (EHSM) to support contract safety requirements and corporate safety program. The EHSM is responsible for the development and implementation of EHS programs and management systems guided by OSHA, DoD, and the U.S. Army. They will conduct and document technical evaluations, risk assessments and mitigation, incident investigations, hazardous materials communication and awareness, and safety program compliance. The EHSM will monitor workplace environments, analyze work operations and processes, materials, equipment, and work habits and take effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal, state, customer, and company environmental, health and safety standards. They will cultivate an environment of ownership and accountability to prevent illnesses and/or injuries and assure safe work environments across the local facility and teams geographically separated across multiple states, countries, and possibly forward deployed locations in support of programs.

  • Responsible for identifying, analyzing, and controlling occupational hazards and promoting worksite and/or product safety by applying knowledge of industrial processes, mechanics, psychology, physiology, and industrial health and safety laws.
  • Lead and implement the safety programs and compliance reporting. Develop policies and procedures as needed.
  • Implement OSHA, safety and health standards, EPA, state and local environmental regulations and programs; to include legislation evaluation and interpretation. Maintain all records to document compliance accordingly.
  • Responsible for writing or working with third parties to develop complex reports and coordinating corrective actions related to safety and health with internal customers, facilities contacts, principal investigators, and administrators.
  • Responsible for all workplace safety evaluations, safety checklists and signage, operational safety precautions like protective gear and safety training are present.
  • Responsible for safety program and audits at all responsible sites.
  • Provide management with periodic updates regarding control of environmental hazards and compliance program status as well as recommendations to accomplish ES sector goals and objectives. Monitor the implementation of best practices.
  • Author and implement employee-facing communications.
  • Ensure resources maintain compliance with EHS requirements.
  • Develop and conduct various EHS trainings to support company programs.
  • Specifically, this position will provide a range of environmental, safety and health services across the site while also supporting teams geographically separated across multiple states, countries, and possibly forward deployed locations in support of the program.
  • Work independently in the field to scientifically analyze and evaluate potential exposures and general safety.
  • Develop and implement program-specific Safety Plans, Accident Response Plan, HAZMAT Action Plan, and others as required.
  • As needed, conduct post-accident actions and regulatory reporting, as required.
  • Serve as primary trainer and certifying authority for Material Handling Equipment.
  • Manage program training readiness, to include courses and enrollments outside of the realm of EHS.
  • Review, manage, and/or supervise storage, safety, response, and movement of various ordnance to include DOT Hazard Class 1 and Class 5
  • Other tasks as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship required. Must have or be able to obtain a Secret Clearance.
  • Requires a minimum of five years' experience in a similar EHS capacity. Previous experience developing Safety Plans.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, EPA and other related Federal, state, and local regulations, auditing procedures, environmental compliance, and environmental safety & health programs.
  • Knowledge of safety-related DoD, Army and Military Standards.
  • Prior experience with OSH workplace inspections.
  • Ability to train employees on company and customer safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain professional working relationships with individuals and groups at various levels of authority and responsibility within and outside the organization
  • Ability to prioritize projects and escalate issues to the appropriate parties as necessary
  • Working knowledge and proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office applications to include MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and MS Power Point.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • BA degree in Environmental/Occupational Health.
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Prior experience supporting or managing a safety program for the US Army, MDA or other DoD agency is highly desired.
  • Experience with environmental management and compliance.
  • Experience with HAZMAT and ordnance safety requirements.
