The Position

Cygnal is seeking an Associate, Computational Biologist to join our Bioinformatics team. The role's responsibilities include both analyzing large-scale omics data and decoding high-content imaging data from various experiments. Under the supervision of senior bioinformatician, this candidate is expected to be independent and goal-oriented, with the ability to work on multiple projects in parallel. This position will work very closely with biology teams in varying processes of new drug targets and compounds. We are searching for a scientifically motivated individual who is comfortable working in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain pipelines for processing NGS data (genomics, transcriptomics, etc.)
  • Analyze and extract biological insights from internal and public datasets
  • Process high-content imaging data using deep learning/machine learning methods and pipelines
  • Develop and provide supports for quantitative image analytical tools (digital pathology, fluorescence imaging, etc.)
  • Implement and develop data analysis/visualization tools to enable biologists accessing data
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver and interpret data to biology teams

Minimum Qualifications:
  • MS in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, engineering, biomedical engineering or a related field
  • Strong programming skills (R/Python)
  • Ability of contributing to multi-disciplinary team projects
  • Familiar with ImageJ and knowledge of image processing
  • Familiar with NGS data
  • Familiar with bioinformatics tools and databases
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with scientists of different backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with single-cell RNA-seq data
  • Experience with imaging data processing using deep learning methods (TensorFlow/PyTorch)
  • Experience in creating web application such as R-shinny to allow biologists to investigate data independently
  • Experience with HPC environment such as AWS
  • Experience in the field of oncology, IO, GI, or neuroscience
  • Research experience supported GitHub or by peer-reviewed publications
