Job Description
Kinnetic Laboratories, Inc. (KLI) is a well-established Oceanographic and Environmental Science Services firm headquartered in Aptos, CA. Our core mission is to provide scientific, quantitative environmental data and evaluations focused on key issues for applied projects - for design, permitting, monitoring, or compliance purposes. Our research is focused in coastal and estuarine waters and terrestrial watersheds.

Job Overview

Our Los Alamitos office is seeking an entry level to mid entry level Environmental Scientist I/II (based on experience) to help execute innovative water quality and sediment sampling projects for KLI's federal, state, and municipal clients. The selected candidate will work closely with Project Team Members on water quality, stormwater monitoring and planning, environmental management, watershed/water quality, and sediment sampling projects.

The selected candidate will report to Project Managers in our various offices in Southern California, which provide leading-edge services to a wide range of clients in diverse settings throughout the U.S. The successful candidate will work in a team environment with other professionals within the Carlsbad and Los Alamitos offices, which will make communication skills, teamwork, flexibility, and an ability to adapt to different teams, types of projects, and leadership styles important to the individual's and group's success. This position offers the opportunity to apply creative problem-solving skills to environmental issues and rewards individual initiative, persistence, resourcefulness, and flexibility. This position is anticipated to include 30 - 50% field work, which may be local or require the ability to travel.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Environmental Science, Water Resource Engineering, Aquatic Biology/Chemistry, or a related field.
  • 6+ months of directly relevant work experience is required.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and using Microsoft Excel are required.
  • Ability to travel for projects.
  • Must be available to be on call for stormwater sampling from October 1 to April 15, which may occur during nights, weekends, or holidays.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • An advanced degree is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of scientific instrumentation and water quality equipment used in the environmental field.
  • An aptitude for troubleshooting mechanical and/or electronic equipment.

· An in-depth understanding of pollutant sources and their impacts on water quality, human health effects and risk assessment, and development of water quality criteria.
  • Familiarity with Southern California's watersheds and associated water quality challenges a plus.

· Experience using various statistical programs and techniques (regression analysis, multivariate statistics, box-whisker plots, etc.) to support data analyses a plus.
