Title: GMO Chemist/Biologist
Location: Wilson, NC
Duration: Contract to hire
Schedule: Full Time M-F
Target Start Date: ASAP

Responsibilities:
This position will work within the lab and be responsible for standard testing processes and supervising day to day operations.
  • Performs routine tests on a variety of equipment, pulling of data, reviewing data and recording results
  • Trouble shoots existing methods to find areas of performance improvements and cost reductions
  • Provide insight into technical problems, resource shortages and schedule shortfalls and communicate these effectively to management
  • Provide leadership in all areas of routine testing. Direct technicians and performs day to day supervision of technicians working within lab
  • Schedules work load to meet turnaround requirements.
  • Evaluates subordinates
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of techniques, instrumentation and lab functions to identify problems and support completion of work assignments
  • Conducts tests, collects and analyzes data according to established protocols
  • Prepares lab reports for approval by management as needed
  • Oversees maintenance of instruments and works with vendors as needed
  • Monitors processes to identify opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Creates, reviews, and approves quality system documents as needed
  • Conducts routine training and ensures training requirements are met
  • Ensures QMS requirements are met
  • Ensures safety and hazardous waste rules are enforced and followed
  • Plays a role in hiring and terminating new and existing employees
  • Supports cost reduction for the company
  • Works with Purchasing Agent and Quality to keep supplies stocked and to resolve vendor issues
  • Keeps management informed of any personnel issues, resource shortages and quality issues
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • BA/BS Science degree
  • 3 or more years of laboratory experience
  • ISO/IEC 17025 and cGMP knowledge
  • qPCR
  • Micro skills
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and technical skills
  • Good communication, team management and cross functional skills are required
  • Must be able to make sound decisions and evaluate processes
  • Must be organized and team-oriented
  • Ability to understand complex laboratory equipment, analyze results and trouble-shoot both instruments and methods
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office
  • Demonstrated capabilities with problem solving skills
