Job Description

Specific Responsibilities:

The Clinical Virology group at Gilead Sciences is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative associate scientist to support our growing effort on the development of therapeutics for respiratory and emerging viral infections, including COVID-19. The successful candidate will function as a team member focused on characterization of resistance development to antiviral agents through both in vitro and clinical studies.

Essential Duties and Job Functions:
  • Design and execute laboratory experiments to characterize the in vitro resistance profile of antiviral drugs, monitor the emergence and characterize drug resistance mutations in patient samples, and assist in mechanism of action studies.
  • Organize experimental details and be proficient in both data management and the preparation of summary reports.
  • Support clinical studies through virology assay development and implementation, data analysis, and writing regulatory documents and publications.
  • Communicate clear presentations on data and interpretations in group and team meetings.
  • Maintain knowledge of scientific advances in relevant fields from literature and scientific meetings.
  • Effective team player who can think critically and creatively, work independently, and resolve problems to achieve results.


Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
  • BS or MS in biological sciences with 8+ years of experience; biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.
  • Experience in virology, molecular biology, and cell culture techniques as well as willingness to work in a BSL3 laboratory environment.
  • Well organized and detail-oriented with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work collaboratively in a high-paced, cross-functional team environment.
