Description

The Department of Mathematics at West Virginia University invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral position to begin August 2021. The initial appointment will be made for two years, renewable for a third year in exceptional cases. We seek scholars in areas that align with current interests of the department, including mathematical systems biology, theoretical and computational methods in interaction networks, modeling and simulation of signaling pathways, reaction-diffusion processes, and mathematical epidemiology.

The Department of Mathematics includes 25 tenured and tenure-track faculty, about 65 graduate students, and several postdoctoral scholars. West Virginia University is a land grant institution enrolling over 29,000 students and has a Carnegie Classification of Highest Research Activity. The University is located in Morgantown, WV, an award-winning "small" city with a metropolitan population of about 100,000 within easy travel distance of Pittsburgh and Washington, DC.

Qualifications

The position requires a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in mathematics or a closely related field earned in the past 6 years, and evidence of excellent research and teaching ability. The successful candidate is expected to establish research collaborations with current Department faculty members ( https://www.math.wvu.edu/research_interests ) , and to teach two courses per semester, including those in the calculus sequence. The position offers access to resources for career development, including funding for travel to professional meetings.
