Summary of Duties:

Duties for this position are to teach social and environmental justice related courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs in the School of Design + Construction, including architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, construction management and/or construction engineering. The position will include conducting interdisciplinary research, scholarship and outreach related to social and environmental justice.

Responsibilities of the position include the following:

• Develop new SDC course(s) in social justice in the built environment;

• Craft curriculum in the School focused on social justice;

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the School of Design + Construction and be willing to teach online when required;

• Collaborate with faculty in departments and units across the WSU system to teach about and research social and environmental justice topics;

• Develop a clear research agenda that demonstrates or leads to translational and/or transformational change in the built environment related to social justice;

• Publish research material in national and/or international peer-reviewed venues and actively pursue grants;

• Conduct community engaged teaching, scholarship and outreach in social justice in the built environment;

• Participate in School committees and student mentoring;

• Provide continuing education and short courses to industry and students.

Position Term in months: 9 months

Required Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD or masters terminal degree in their discipline from any of the following areas but not limited to: architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, construction management, construction engineering, city and regional planning, urban design, law, civil engineering, environmental engineering, sociology, environmental sciences, health sciences, history, political science, or education.

Applicants must develop or have the potential to develop a nationally recognized research and outreach program.

Applicants are expected to collaborate across disciplines to develop and establish initiatives around social justice in the built environment.

Applicants must be willing to mentor students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds, and to engage with varied community stakeholders.

Applicants must have experience with instruction, mentoring, or tutoring in academic or community settings.
