The Director, Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Global External Supply will join a team of dedicated and passionate colleagues within an organization committed to protecting our employees and partners through a safe, healthy and environmental caring work environment. This position works in close partnership with internal multi-functional team members to develop, deploy and ensure compliance with J&J's External Supply standards.
This critical position is responsible for stewarding the integration of EH&S compliance into J&J's external supply chain partners, which consists of more than 600 external manufacturing sites and more than 150 active pharmaceutical ingredient sites.
The Director, EH&S Global External Supply collaborates with senior-level leadership in Procurement, External Manufacturing, segment Supply Chain teams, EH&S and Sustainability on a multitude of product, process, project and compliance related scenarios. In addition to sitting on the EH&S Global Leadership Team, this position is also an ad-hoc member of the Global Procurement Leadership Team. Externally, this position collaborates with senior leaders of suppliers / external manufacturers and EH&S technical resources at external supply sites along with representing the J&J viewpoint on external supply EH&S topics at external trade associations, business groups and other industry partners meetings/councils.
In this position, you will:
• Lead the development and execution of external supply risk mitigation strategy ensuring compliance with applicable J&J and regulatory and expectations, protects J&J equity, minimizing the risk of external supply chain disruption due to an EH&S related event.
• Develop and maintain tools and processes that identify risk, track issues, and monitor/improve EH&S performance at External Supplier sites.
• Lead External Supply assessments and audits programs for the enterprise, summarizing results, updating leadership, and presenting key issues and metrics.
• Oversee global business plans for all business partners that require EH&S external supply support.
• Develop and deploy supplier related guidelines, training programs and overall supplier capability building.
• Lead a team (direct and indirect reports, internal and external) responsible for ensuring continued EH&S compliance and risk management at all external manufacturing and supplier locations.
• Cultivate strong partnerships for improved outcomes through collaboration resulting in enhanced shared solutions.
• Identify significant unmitigated and/or emerging EH&S risks related to external supply chain and develop action plans to resolve identified issues.
• Partner with complementary J&J organizations/teams such as Sustainability and Procurement Citizenship.
• Represent J&J's position on key external working partnerships.
Qualifications
• A minimum of University/Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required; Engineering or related field preferred.
• A minimum of 10 years in a related industry such as Environmental Health & Safety, Supply Chain, Procurement, R&D, or related experience is required.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills are required.
• Strong influencing skills with proficiency in collaborating across all levels of an organization including with senior leaders; Strong networking and relationship building skills is required.
• The ability to act as a change agent by bringing people together, broadly engaging the organization is required.
• Build highly motivated teams who are engaged and passionate about their impact, focused on personal and professional development is required.
• Manages through complexity and ambiguity; Has the ability to resolve a multitude of issues and work across a wide variety of customers, business partners and external influencers is required.
• Actively pursues different perspectives through listening effectively and taking a global approach, understanding diverse cultures and business conditions is required
• Adapt strategies as needed while still delivering strong compliance is required.
• Understand key business scenarios with a particular understanding of sourcing is preferred.
• This position is located in New Brunswick, NJ or remotely in the United States. Work location is flexible if approved by the company except that position may not be performed remotely from Colorado. This position may require up to 25 % of travel both internationally and domestically.
