Associate or Full Professor/Chair, Biology

The College of Science and Technology at North Carolina A&T State University seeks a dynamic and innovative chairperson for the Department of Biology. The successful candidate is expected to have significant experience in higher education and to possess a distinguished record of scholarship and research. This is a 12-month administrative position with a tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Professor. An appointment at the Associate professor level can be considered for candidates who exhibit exceptional potential for growth. The successful candidate is also expected to have a vision for invigorating and expanding the educational, research, and service efforts of the department. Candidates should exhibit a strong commitment to scholarship and excellence in the area of Biology and exhibit an open and collegial style of management and leadership.

Reporting directly to the Dean of the College of Science and Technology, the Department Chair is expected to provide leadership and foster excellence in all departmental efforts. Some of the Chair's responsibilities include promoting student success; student recruitment and mentoring, ensuring quality undergraduate and graduate programs; faculty workload assignment, faculty hiring, mentoring, development, evaluation, and promotion; supporting faculty research, teaching and service; providing oversight and stewardship for the administrative, financial, and academic programs; engaging faculty in strategic planning; program assessment and reporting; maintaining program accreditation, and teaching.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an 1890 land-grant doctoral research university dedicated to learning, discovery, and community engagement. The College of Science and Technology is a national leader that serves and engages the citizens of the state of North Carolina, the nation, and the world through preeminence in science and technology education, research, discovery, and innovation. The College houses the departments of Applied Engineering Technology, Biology, Built Environment, Chemistry, Computer Systems Technology, Graphic Design Systems, Mathematics, Physics, and the PhD Program of Applied Science Technology.

The Department of Biology has more than four hundred (500) enrolled undergraduate and over twenty-five (25) enrolled master's students. It also enrolls several PhD students under the newly approved PhD program in Applied Science and Technology. The Department of Biology currently has 20 faculty members who are engaged in research in the fields of cell and molecular biology, cancer biology, bioinformatics, neurobiology, and biology education. The Department of Biology's mission is to educate students to become competent, competitive, and confident leaders who excel in global scientific community. Requirements:

Qualifications include PhD or equivalent terminal degree in Biology or a closely related field.

Applicant must have a minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated excellence in teaching and creative/research activities consistent with eligibility for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. We are looking for a service-oriented individual with excellent people skills and the ability to motivate faculty and staff towards shared goals.

Preferred:

Candidates with the following are preferred:
1) Experience in securing extramural funding and fundraising
2) Five (5) years of experience teaching and/or administrative experience.
3) An established record of research, publications, and professional accomplishments in Biology or a closely related field.
4) Experience in developing new programs
