REPORTS TO: General Supervisor

LOCATION: Farmers Branch, TX

POSITION SUMMARY

The Medical Technologist II Float performs various scientific techniques for patient testing. This position provides coverage in multiple areas under the direction of the department's General Supervisor and in accordance with established guidelines and standard operating procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Performs Medical Technologist duties in multiple departments across the Laboartory.
  • Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
  • Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures. Maintains proficiency and competency in performance for the testing menu of the division or section.
  • Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
  • Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
  • Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problem or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, or director.
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specification.
  • Performs equipment validation, reagent optimization and validation following regulatory guidelines and procedures.
  • Keeps work area physically clean, organized and free of safety hazards.
  • Properly disposes of all bio-hazardous materials and chemically hazardous materials and prepares solutions and reagents in accordance with standard procedures.
  • Adheres to personnel policies including, but not limited to: schedules and attendance, performance evaluations, up to date safety training and continuing education required for competency as well as certification maintenance.
  • Participates in regulatory agency inspection readiness and onsite inspections.
  • Communicates effectively and timely as needed to co-workers, management, medical directors, and other divisions.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education / Certifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a biological, chemical or clinical laboratory sciences or medical technology from an accredited institution
  • Certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP): MB, MLS, MLT and/or appropriate specialist certification(s)
  • Associate Degree in Laboratory Science with at least 60 semester hours which include 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses that include 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination.

  • Minimum two years' experience in related high complexity testing
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Willingness to maintain confidential information

  • This position is full-time
  • No travel is required with this position
