The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, housed in the School of Public Health, has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Coordinator. Organizational Mission: The Pacific Northwest Agricultural Safety and Health (PNASH) Center (https://deohs.washington.edu/pnash/) serves Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington by reducing occupational disease and injury among agricultural operators, workers and their families in the farming, forestry, and fishing industries. Our emphasis is on injury and illness research and prevention for vulnerable populations such as contract workers and children. The PNASH Center is housed within the University of Washington School of Public Health's Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences. PNASH is one of a network of ten regional centers with foundational support from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC). PNASH's current 5-year portfolio includes projects in pesticide exposure, heat-related illness, animal handling, pediatric asthma, forest restoration, and commercial fishing. Lead coordination of and support several diverse projects with an emphasis on agriculture health and safety, human health effects, and environmental exposures. Examples of current projects include interventions to reduce the impact of heat stress on agricultural workers and understanding and addressing the health effects of wildfire smoke among rural populations. Work closely with diverse community groups including workers, community members, businesses, external research partners, various non-profit leaders, government representatives, and others. Study populations often include participants with diverse language skills, educational levels, race and ethnic identities, and income levels. Design, implementation, and translation of the research aims for varying populations requires a high degree of skill. Responsibilities: Leadership & Supervision:
- Lead tasks, coordinate with team members, and supervise activities within projects (e.g. creating data collection tools, risk communication materials, managing and analyzing data, coordinating dissemination and outreach, planning and implementing engagement workshops).
- Train staff, students, and external partners on data collection and analysis using standardized procedures and monitor quality control throughout research studies.
- Work closely with undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral scholars participating on the various studies - overseeing method development, human subject compliance, data collection in the field, analysis and write-up.
- Lead team meetings and working groups. Coordination & Compliance:
- Collaborate with team members (UW and external partners) to achieve the project's aims.
- Manage and ensure human subjects compliance.
- Develop meeting agendas, and perform record keeping and archiving of materials.
- Lead manuscript submission processes and report writing. Technical & Student Support:
- Clean and prepare datasets for analyses, develop annotated R code, provide documentation for data cleaning steps, maintain reproducibility (e.g. posting analysis code on GitHub), perform quality control, and implement statistical analysis plans.
- Identify problems or technical issues within a project and provide long-term solutions. Contribute to the team with ideas on project task efficiency and work flow.

- Master's Degree in public health, environmental or occupational health sciences, epidemiology, climate sciences or a related field and one year of work experience. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. Desirable:
- 2 -3 year of work experience. Exceptional English and Spanish language skills a nd bi-cultural experience.
