The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences in the University of Washington School of Public Health is seeking a full-time Research Coordinator to join the Collaborative on Extreme Event Resilience (CEER) team in Seattle, Washington. CEER is a research lab focused on conducting applied, policy-relevant research about the health impacts of disasters, pandemics and climate change, and policy and programmatic solutions to build resilience. The Research Coordinator will join the CEER team to coordinate and support a variety of health-related disaster and climate change research activities, as well as research and evaluation projects related to occupational and environmental health more generally. Specifically, the Research Coordinator will support grant writing and preparation of grant materials, serve as a project manager for several active research and evaluation projects, collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data, and participate in the dissemination of study findings. They will also coordinate lab meetings and administrative activities. The Research Coordinator will interact with and coordinate a variety of stakeholders, including community partners and academic collaborators located across the world. They will be responsible for coordinating and contributing a variety of projects simultaneously. Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving abilities, as well as meticulous attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively are critical to the success of this position. RESPONSIBILITIES: The UW DEOHS Collaborative on Extreme Event Resilience (CEER) is dedicated to policy-relevant, community-driven research on the health impacts of climate change and extreme events, as well as policy and programmatic solutions designed to build resilience. The Research Coordinator will support grant writing and research study and evaluation design, provide project management leadership, collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data, support the preparation of research-related publications and presentations, and provide general support to the lab. Specific responsibilities include: Research study design and grant preparation. The Coordinator will work with faculty, staff and students to plan and design research and evaluation projects competitive for intramural and extramural funding. They will draft grant materials, including research strategies, budgets, and supporting documentation. They will work with faculty and staff to prepare and submit grant materials in compliance with University of Washington and sponsor timelines and requirements. Project management. The Coordinator will lead project management activities for several research and evaluation projects, including developing and monitoring project timelines, ensuring work is successfully executed and completed within time frames to meet research objectives, and coordinating and communicating with diverse academic and community stakeholders. They will work with supervising faculty to identify and address problems and issues. They will oversee and assemble progress/interim reporting, communicate with funding agencies; submit project deliverables; an develop and monitor project budgets, including subcontracts. Implement research activities. The Coordinator will support the collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data. The Coordinator may participate in the mentoring of undergraduate or graduate students involved in CEER projects as part of their academic endeavors. They will assist with IRB related activities including submissions, approvals, modifications, and renewals. Dissemination of findings. The Coordinator will contribute to manuscript development and report writing. They will prepare meeting summaries, progress reports, study deliverables, journal articles, and other written materials, and present study findings at meetings as needed. Administration and operations. The Coordinator will manage CEER activities, including managing web and social media activities, purchasing and procurement, coordination of travel and study meetings as needed, addressing administrative or logistical issues experienced by other lab staff and student researchers, scheduling and coordination of lab meetings. REQUIREMENTS: • Master's Degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Environmental Science, Planning or related field and minimum two years of experience. • Knowledge of project management related to public health research • Experience with qualitative data analysis and software • Experience managing research programs, including timelines and work plans • Familiarity with human subjects research regulations and guidelines • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate across groups • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Organized, detail-oriented • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a busy environment with competing priorities • Proficient with Microsoft Office Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED EXPERIENCE Familiarity with disaster and climate change-related health impacts and resilience-promoting policies/programs. Experience with quantitative analysis and statistical software. Experience writing grants and/or academic manuscripts.
