Environmental Scientist - North Port, Florida

Full-time, Exempt position

Summary:

We are a company of employees who enjoy working outdoors and have a passion for restoring the natural environment. At EarthBalance, the Environmental Scientist is responsible for the execution, coordination, and completion of environmental mitigation, restoration, and permitting projects. GIS duties would include digitization, compilation, and data retrieval to build maps and make calculations for permitting and other restoration projects by others.

Duties:
  • Delineate wetlands using State and federal guidelines.
  • Utilize Uniform Mitigation Assessment Methodology (UMAM) to assess wetland quality.
  • Assist in the permitting, oversight, and monitoring of wetland mitigation banks.
  • Develop and compile Environmental Resource Permit and USACE 404 permit applications.
  • Use GIS, CAD, or other mapping and diagramming software to create maps showing coverage of environmental attributes for both permitting and environmental restoration staff
  • Conduct wetland mitigation design and oversight.
  • Perform field activities including wildlife surveys, vegetation monitoring, and habitat mapping.
  • Develop natural resource management plans, using knowledge of environmental planning or state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Create habitat management restoration plans, such as native plant restoration and nuisance and/or exotic plant control.

Role Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, or related field.
  • Must have at least 2 years' experience in biological/environmental consulting and permitting, and relative experience in GIS preferred.
  • Master's Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, or related field is a plus.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Expert knowledge of Florida flora and fauna.
  • Overnight travel of 5 days or more may be required on a project by project basis.

Work Environment:

This position will require a mix of office time and duties performed outside. You will be walking, using 4X4's, ATV's, swamp buggies, airboats, and other modes of transport to move through uneven terrain, wetlands, beaches, mangroves, and other types of challenging natural environments.
