Quidel Corporation is a leading manufacturer of diagnostic healthcare solutions serving to enhance the health and wellbeing of people around the globe with well-known and respected products that provide healthcare professionals with accurate and cost-effective diagnostic information at the point of care (POC).

We are hiring 400 people to install and staff production lines for our new 128,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Carlsbad, CA. We're aiming to grow production of our QuickVue® rapid antigen tests from 50 million tests a year to 50 million tests per month.

The Environmental, Health & Safety Manager (EH&S) manages the development, planning, implementation, and coordination of environmental compliance, occupational health and safety programs. This role develops in house policies, procedures, and training programs related to the scope of the department. The EH&S manager also monitors compliance with all related federal, state, and local regulations and handles all contact with applicable government agencies and inspectors.

Essential Functions:
  • Manages site compliance to EPA, APCD, OSHA, DEH, Life Safety Code, DTSC, and City of Carlsbad and County of San Diego regulatory requirements.
  • Manages the collection, storage, and compliance reporting for all applicable EH&S paperwork.
  • Manages company recycling and land diversion programs, Storm Water systems and implementation of Best Management Practices.
  • Prepare and manage applicable EHS training for all site employees
  • Reviews and prepares OSHA 300 logs and manage and complete Loss Control incident reporting, investigations, and follow-up.
  • Manages worker compensation cases in collaboration with the Human Resources Department.
  • Manages industrial hygiene monitoring and assessment.
  • Manages written programs and inspections.
  • Manage Safety Data Sheets for hazardous materials


Job Requirements

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental and Occupational Health, Engineering, or Life Science, related field or equivalent required
  • Five to seven years of related experience required with emphasis on emergency management, manufacturing, laboratory, and engineering safety, preferably in medical, biotech, or pharmaceutical industry.
  • General experience in Sustainable practices related to Energy Conservation, waste minimization, etc. preferred
  • General experience with Business Continuity Planning preferred
  • Professional certification such as CHMM, CIH, or CSP preferred
  • Current certification in HAZWOPER preferred
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid preferred
Skills and Knowledge
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to environmental, health and safety
  • Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet software and PowerPoint presentation programs
  • Knowledgeable of federal and other regulations, e.g. QSR's, ISO 14001, ISO 13485, CMDR, ISO 45001
  • Demonstrates commitment to the development, implementation and effectiveness of Quidel Quality Management System per ISO, FDA, and other regulatory agencies

This position will work in the Sorrento Valley area for several months then move to our Carlsbad facility in July.
