Mabbett & Associates, Inc. (Mabbett), is seeking a self-motivated full-time or part-time senior wetland scientist to support the firm's natural resources practice, with an emphasis on assignments working under the provisions of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and in a wide range of state and local jurisdictions. This position will serve the federal, state, local, and commercial sectors with assignments that include conducting wetland delineations, assessing the potential impacts of infrastructure and development projects, designing wetland and habitat mitigation, conducting biological inventories, preparing regulatory agency permit applications, and supporting NEPA and state-equivalent reports. This role will work with a wide variety of clients and project types, from small local developments to large federal projects.

Position Requirements/Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Wildlife Biology, Natural Resource Management, or a related course of study.

10 years of experience in wetland delineation, habitat delineation, impact assessment, and regulatory compliance.

Demonstrated experience preparing and obtaining jurisdictional determinations.

Society of Wetland Scientists Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification, or other wetland certification, preferred.

Demonstrated skills in field ecology, data analysis, writing, environmental regulatory compliance with ability to provide these services on both small and large projects. Experience with NEPA and working for the federal or state government a plus.

Excellent organizational and personal communication skills; ability to successfully interact with clients, staff, and peers clearly and directly; capable of functioning both independently and on a team.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office products: Word and Excel. Familiarity with ArcGIS a plus.

OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER and current 8-hour refresher certification a plus.

Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and AED Certified, a plus.

Must possess or be able to obtain, as a minimum, OMB Position of Public Trust and Federal Protective Services Favorable designations (pass a federal background check). Other clearance requirements for access to federal facilities may be necessary and will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.

Ability to travel, work in the field, work outdoors, and lift and carry items weighing up to 60 lbs. This position requires field work in all types of weather and terrain, flexibility and preparedness are a must.

Due to the nature of our work, the clients that we serve, and the setting for certain on-site assignments, the candidate selected for this position must be fully vaccinated for the Covid-19 virus prior to beginning employment except in situations where a medical or religious accommodation is requested and granted by the firm. Responsibilities

This senior-level position will require technical leadership, client maintenance, and working with and/or supporting other practice areas within the firm. The candidate selected for this position will provide technical expertise, lead project implementation, and assist the firm's Director of Natural Resources to develop strategies for growth of the firm over time.

Base Location

This position can be based from Mabbett's offices in Stoneham, Massachusetts or North Smithfield, Rhode Island, with consideration to a home office as well. Work would be performed throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic region. Work may also include specific project opportunities on a short-term basis throughout the US.
