Training & Exercise Coordinator - Columbia, SC

Writes, updates and revises plans, rules and regulations for Livestock Poultry Health (LPH) in consultation with Animal Health Programs (AHP) veterinarians for approval by the State Veterinarian and submission as appropriate. Prepares reports, Standard Operating Procedures, implementation/outreach plans. Proposes and directs exercises designed to test the validity of the plans and LPH readiness. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
35% - Essential - Identify potential gaps in LPH staff training in animal disease and traceability readiness, soundness, and response plans. Work with subject matter experts to develop training to address gaps as prioritized by the Director. In alignment with agency priorities, propose drills and exercises to test readiness and soundness of plans in LPH such as avian influenza, mass depopulation, and secure food supply plans. Develop and facilitate drills and exercises upon approval.

20% - Essential - Support the creation and revisions of plans used by Animal Health Programs by working closely with the subject matter experts to facilitate the development of necessary documents for animal disease response and animal disease traceability. Participate in development and achievement of short and long-term goals for projects. Responsible for organization and management of Animal Health Program inventories of essential tools, equipment, and supplies.

20% - Essential - Support LPH's role in the State Emergency Response Team by serving on the ESF-17 team and serve as one of LPH support staff for ESF-6. Participate in trainings and exercises for ESF-17, ESF-6, and the SERT as directed by the AHP Emergency Preparedness Veterinarian. Prepare training, drills, exercises, and resources for the ESF-17 team members, LPH's ESF-6 support staff members, and other agencies and stakeholders as directed by the Emergency Preparedness Veterinarian.

15% - Essential - Coordinate preparation of newsletters and outreach materials as needed. Interact with stakeholders as needed and perform other duties as assigned. Participate with the AHP staff during an animal disease response or other LPH emergency responsibilities that may extend beyond routine schedule and activities.

10% - Essential - As directed by the Director, coordinate review of LPH regulations by AHP's subject matter experts and facilitate revisions and new regulations drafted by subject matter experts. Coordinate with General Counsel's Office during regulatory processes as directed. Participate in preparation and submission of LPH accountability reports required by the University.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Bachelor's Degree with an Animal background, experience and skills in formal writing;

Work Exp - 1+ years;

Licenses - Drivers License Class D normal
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Master's Degree;

Work Exp - Working in an animal field (e.g. animal science, biology/zoology, veterinary medicine), working in teams, drafting formal documents/letters/articles, emergency management related to animals/food/agriculture/mass care.

Standard Hrs: 37.5; Expected Salary Range: ($ 47,000.00 - $ 55,000.00)
