The Senior Advisor Environmental Specialist Sustainable Financing on the Sustainability, Resilience & ESG Advisory team will work closely with the Executive Advisor to support GHD's growth in the market Environmental &Social (E&S) Finance Investing Market.
The goal for GHD is to be a thought leader and premier Sustainability, Resilience & ESG consultant with a strategic focus across Private, Municipal, Water and Transportation markets in the USA and Canada. Closely cooperating with other GHD enterprise, Advisory Business Activity Leaders, and the broader GHD business including, Marketing Leaders and Regional Technical Leaders, this role is a key element of our growth strategy.
The Sustainability, Resilience & ESG practice area includes investor support, strategy consulting, climate risk & impact assessment, decarbonization, transactions and ESG reporting.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
  • Support the ESG/Sustainability Executive Advisor(s) to implement the growth strategy for the GHD Advisory Strategic Sustainability and ESG practice and aligned with the broader GHD Advisory strategy and the Enterprise Business.
  • Support the ESG/Sustainability Executive Leader to implement the marketing/communications strategy for the GHD Advisory Strategic Sustainability and ESG practice to broaden the GHD brand both internally and externally.
  • Lead and assist with the technical delivery and management of Advisory projects and client relationships.
    Leverage existing relationships to support the growth of the Advisory Strategic Sustainability & ESG opportunities throughout North America and support the delivery of new and existing client opportunities.
    Support the GHD Advisory Strategic Sustainability practice in North America so that we meet GHD's overall objectives in terms of financial performance, risk management and strategic development having regard to GHD's core values.
    Assist in mentoring and coaching to develop Advisory Strategic Sustainability and ESG practice team members.
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following general experience:
  • Knowledge/experience in environmental and social (E&S) advisory services / due diligence services in any sector (i.e. infrastructure, power, water).
  • Knowledge/experience in the requirements of Lenders/investors, including Environmental Risk analysis, Environmental and Social Action Plans (ESAPs), Environmental Management Systems, climate change, and biodiversity and natural resources matters.
  • Permitting processes and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Impact Studies requirements at the State, Federal, or International level.
  • Knowledge of IFC-based environmental methodologies for ecosystem services, cumulative impacts, critical habitats, etc.
  • Experience conducting project environmental supervision, compliance monitoring and auditing services against Equator Principles and International standards.
  • Familiar with environmental/biodiversity risks and impacts reduction tools/frameworks
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment associated with investments.
  • Interface with customers and clients.
Experience and Skills:
  • Relevant degree required (ecology, biology); Master's or Doctorate degree preferred. Undergraduate degree with project experience also accepted.
  • 5-15 years' experience in environmental advisory services.
  • Working knowledge of Equator Principles, the IFC Performance Standards 2012, and the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) Safeguards.
  • Ability to travel as required preferred.
  • Prior experience working in Latin America or Asia beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent detailed oriented technical report writing skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Fluency in a second language (e.g., Spanish) (written and oral) beneficial.
