POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

This is an independent professional position. The incumbent has received a wide variety of in office and in field training. This position will conduct environmental site inspections to assure compliance with state and local laws and rules, and recommending issuance or denial of permits.

Inspects food services facilities regulated by the Department of Health to assure compliance with 64E-11 FAC.

Inspects public swimming pools and bathing places regulated by the Department of Health to assure compliance with 64 E-9,FAC to assure compliance with state water quality, safety, and operating standards to protect the public health. Activities include permitting, field chemical testing, inspecting water treatment components (pumps, filters, chemical feeders, flow rates, etc.), complaint investigation, consultation, and enforcement.

Inspects mobile home and recreational vehicle parks regulated by the Department of Health to assure compliance with 64 E-15,FAC. Inspect group care facilities regulated by the Department of Health to assure compliance with 64 E-12,FAC, 6A-2 or FBC 468 to protect the health and safety of clients.

Investigates environmental nuisance complaints relative to solid waste, sewage disposal systems, disease vectors, and any other environmentally related threat to public health. Efforts to secure abatement include consultation, referral, and enforcement.

Initiates and pursues enforcement actions as necessary by the issuance of Notices of Violation, preparation of evidence and supporting documentation, and by giving testimony before the County Health and Sanitary Control Board.

Participates in in-service training programs and continued education offerings related to the above.

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited 4-year college or university with a degree or major coursework in public health, environmental health, environmental science, or a physical biological science.
  • Valid driver's license free of major infractions and access to a reliable vehicle to be utilized for work purposes, (mileage will be reimbursed).
  • Certified or eligible to become certified within six months of hiring as required by FS 381.0101 as an Environmental Health Professional. Chapter 381.0101, F.S. Established Standards for Certification. Recognizes Registered Sanitarians as Certified. 64E-18, F.A.C. Major course work is no less than 30 semester hours or 40 quarter hours of class work. and a degree or major coursework in public health, environmental health, environmental science, or a physical biological science.
  • Previous experience conducting inspections of regulated mobile home parks, group care facilities, public swimming pools.
  • Previous experience in interpretation of rules/regulations.
