The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the United States Department of Agriculture's chief scientific research agency and one of the world's premiere scientific organizations. ARS Postdoctoral Research Associates are hired to supplement a lead scientist's research on agricultural problems of high national priority affecting American agriculture.

  • Develop semi-autonomous, high-throughput processes for bioinformatics analysis of large datasets.
  • Determine expression patterns, regulation and function of stress physiology genes.
  • Develop and utilize machine learning approaches to identify gene expression patterns associated with weed interference in crops.
  • Develop and utilize gene expression network technologies to identify regulatory pathways involved in weed perception and response by crops.

Qualifications
This position requires a Ph.D in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Applicants must meet basic Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standard's requirements of the scientific discipline necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

At The GS-11

A Ph.D. must have been obtained within the last 4 years of application date.

Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level.

Specialized experience is fulfilled by one or more of the following:
knowledge of bioinformatics; knowledge of computer programming including scripting languages such as Python and R; ability to apply machine learning algorithms and gene network analyses; expertise in bioinformatic analysis of gene sequences.
