Position Summary: The University of Alaska Anchorage is recruiting for a full-time Term Assistant Professor to teach Fire and EMS courses, and to coordinate the Fire and Emergency Services Technology program in the School of Allied Health.
Duties: 100% Responsible for the organization, administration, instruction, evaluation, continuous quality improvement, curriculum planning and development, directing other program faculty/staff, and general effectiveness of the Fire and Emergency Services program. Maintaining Compliance with Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) standards. Teaching courses to include, but not limited to didactic and laboratory courses in the Fire and Emergency Services program. Directing student learning and assessing student progress in achieving the requirements of the program in the appropriate learning domains. Preparation and review of annual program budget. Additional duties include course revision, academic assessment, curriculum improvement, text evaluation, academic advising, program development and University committee assignments. Job Posting Summary: The University of Alaska Anchorage, School of Allied Health seeks an individual who will provide knowledge and skills for students planning a career in Fire and Emergency Services, as well as knowledge and skills for the career firefighter. The Associate of Applied Science curriculum includes a technical core which follows the National Fire Academy's Fire and Emergency Service Higher Education's model core curriculum for two-year degree programs. Each student must complete the technical core, Math A105 or higher, a natural science with a lab, a social science course, and remaining UAA AAS general course requirements. Student also complete courses from a variety of program electives.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Credential as Instructor in Fire or Emergency Services
  • Knowledge of Fire and Emergency Services training considerations and needs in Alaska
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Computer literacy and knowledgeable in distance-delivery technologies

Experience:

  • Significant experience in firefighting or emergency services.
  • Substantial teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively as a teacher.

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with curriculum development and assessment.
  • Experience in program management.
  • Experience with institutional and/or discipline-based accreditation and appropriate industry standards.

Education/Training:

  • Bachelor's degree with extensive employment in the Fire or Emergency Services field required.
  • Credential as Instructor in Fire and\or EMS required.

Preferred Experience/Training:
  • Additional national and state certifications in Fire and Emergency Services specialty areas.
  • Master's degree.
Assignment Information: Term-Funded, Full-Time, Assistant Professor rank, Bipartite, 9 months per year (mid-August to mid-May) and full employee benefits package (https://www.alaska.edu/jobs/benefits/) Term Position: This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.
