Job Description

We are a mucosal immunology lab studying the regulation of B cell activation and antibody production in intestine, as well as systemic lymphoid tissues. We are particularly interested in dissecting signals from the innate immune system that help mucosal B cells to become activated.

We are seeking a full-time Associate Researcher II to join our team and manage our mouse colony, assist in collection and preparation of blood and organs, as well as immunization procedures.

This post is a one-year commitment, potentially extendable based on funding.

The candidate is a good listener, can recognize problems as they occur and recommend the appropriate solution, communicate ideas, problems and suggestions, asks questions when in doubt and is willing to learn new methods. Independence and a high degree of flexibility will be beneficial in a novel and rapidly changing research environment.
  • Manage mouse colony
  • Conduct experiments using advanced research techniques specific to subject matter of the research project.
  • Assist in collection and preparation of blood and organs, as well as immunization procedures.
  • Analyze and assist in interpreting moderately complex results.
  • Collaborate with the other associate researcher and postdocs in the lab to perform and optimize laboratory-based assays including preparing reagents, shipments, deliveries, ordering consumables.
  • Keep detailed, accurate and comprehensible records of experimental plans (i.e., Laboratory Notebook) and work and to communicate results to colleagues on a regular basis.
  • Assists in new and unexpected research experiments and techniques.
  • Process, label and cryopreserve biological samples, including blood and tissue specimens.
  • Performs other related duties

Requirements:
  • BS degree in Biology or related area.
  • Candidates with a minimum of two years professional experience are preferred.
  • The candidate must have prior experience with mouse handling, preferably also with colony management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

Experience in any combination of the following techniques is preferred and will be very valuable:
  • Immunizations (for example i.p., i.v., or oral gavage)
  • Murine dissection and organ harvesting and processing

Experience in immunology, cell or molecular biology (or related fields) is required and any of the following techniques would be valuable:
  • Flow cytometry
  • ELISA
  • Cell extraction from gut preparations
  • Extraction and purification of DNA/RNA/Protein.
