Description of duties:

Serves as a Biological Scientist II primarily working on the wildlife and environmental areas (WEAs) in the Northern District of the North Central Region. This position serves directly under the supervision of the Lead Area Biologist for Branan Field, Bell Ridge, Ft. White, Lafayette Forest and Suwannee Ridge WEAs. Incumbent shall provide assistance to wildlife and land management efforts and survey activities on additional public lands in the district which have been established as wildlife management areas (WMAs).

WMA and WEA Responsibilities: Perform habitat restoration using prescribed fire, planting of native vegetation, and other techniques; perform wildlife surveys on multiple species; survey and eradicate exotic vegetation using herbicides and other methods; perform archeological resource monitoring; operate tractors, dozers, and other equipment; maintain roads, equipment, and office building; accurately and routinely submits reports of activities and accomplishments using on-line databases and ArcGIS; provide technical assistance to other biologists.

Knowledge, skills and abilities: Wildlife biology; assessment and inventory of wildlife and habitat, collection and analysis of biological data, fire ecology and plant successions, habitat restoration techniques, familiarity with outdoor recreational activities, ability to write scientific reports. Ability to organize work assignments and set priorities and ability to operate farm tractors and implements; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
