JOB TITLE:Aquatic Lifeguard

DEPARTMENT: CP Aquatic Center

STATUS: Non-Exempt /Part-Time (6:15 am - 9 am Monday/Wednesday)

JOB SUMMARY:

The primary role of the Aquatics Lifeguard is to ensure client safety by actively guarding pool patrons and enforcing pool rules. Instructors and lifeguards will protect and teach people the essentials of proper aquatic swimming, safety techniques and water exercise.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

Lifeguard Specific
  • Prevent injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors.
  • Lifeguards and instructors are required to have current certification in American Red Cross CPR for the professional Rescuer, Lifeguard Training or Shallow Water Guard Training.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills are necessary for the position.
  • Pool security is the responsibility of the lifeguard on duty. Proper opening and closing procedures must be followed.
  • Lifeguards are responsible for the safety of all persons in the pool and the pool area.

  • Overall
  • Attentively watch pool patrons. In order to maintain a safe environment, staff must always enforce all pool rules and regulations.
  • Assist patrons in pool areas as necessary.
  • Recognize and respond to emergency situations appropriately. Staff must be knowledgeable of all emergency procedures.
  • Responsible for understanding and completing opening and closing procedures.
  • Attend meetings as needed.
  • Chemical testing.
  • Able to work with patrons in a professional and friendly manner.
  • See to the safe operation of all equipment utilized.
  • Lifeguards will be on deck 5 minutes prior to their scheduled starting time, dressed in proper guard attire.
  • Staff are responsible for the proper coverage of their assigned hours.
  • Staff will use proper teaching techniques and guarding techniques as set to reflect the CP program standards.
  • Adhere to agency safety policies and procedures.
  • Any other duties assigned.

  • EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Current Lifeguarding Certification preferred.
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED certification preferred.
  • Proficient swim skills required.
  • Ability to work with all ages and skill levels required.
