POSITION SUMMARY:

The (EHS) Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist will assist with leading the Company's efforts to maintain a healthy and safe work environment for all employees. The position will assist with maintaining adherence to applicable laws pertaining to safe workplace standards, while ensuring regulatory compliance with all laws governing the industry.

Travel: Yes, between CCA Sites

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

At a minimum, tasks will include, but not limited to:
  • Process safety management experience with hazardous chemicals and materials. Working with all departments to prevent or mitigate episodic chemical releases.
  • Partner with business unit leadership to drive a strong safety culture, and proper safe behaviors.
  • Recommend safety policies and procedures as directed that support the company's goals, the operation's needs, and achievement of safety results.
  • Support the company's safety standards and discipline guidelines.
  • Inspects facilities to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.
  • Recommends and implements inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections.
  • Recommend and review health and safety procedures for all areas of the company (to include but not exclusive: Farms, manufacturing, and office space).
  • Prepares and schedules OSHA required trainings to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
  • Monitors compliance with safety procedures.
  • Draft's inspection reports to document inspection findings.
  • Ensures that (SDS) safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
  • Maintains records of employee exposure to hazardous waste or contaminants, as required.
  • Lead and ensure compliance with all incident reporting requirements.
  • Maintain recordkeeping and reporting according to specific state and federal regulations.
  • Recommend and approve regulatory reports submitted to state and federal agencies.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, SOPs, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Excellent training skills.
  • Have extensive knowledge of state regulations and procedures.
  • Participate in compliance audits and compliance requirements
  • Maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Partner and collaborate with Safety Manager for timely filing of industrial WC claims.
  • Provide direct response, investigation and support for industrial injuries, accidents and/or near-misses and implement effective corrective measures to prevent any reoccurrence.
  • Work closely with Safety & Security personnel to maintain CCA safe and secure.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
  • Ensures that established Safety guidelines are followed and comply with Cal/Osha and Right-to-Know Standards.
  • Follows CCA Policies, Procedures, Standards, Rules & Regulations, and ensure that employees perform their duties safely and efficiently.
  • Strong adherence and knowledge of industry safety standards. Active participation in ongoing development of safety improvement plans and training of staff.
  • Proven ability to function within a project team, prioritizing/delegating work, driving productivity, setting the right expectation, and proactively overcoming obstacles in a complex project.
  • Patience and positive attitude maintained when interacting with managers, co-workers, staff, production employees, contractors, suppliers, customers, and inspectors.
  • Earn and keep the trust and respect of individuals at all levels, by building strong relationships that focus on supporting CCA mission and values.
  • Proficient Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proven track record of implementing improvements in safety in general.
  • Excellent time management skills. Ability to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize work to meet targets and deadlines.
  • Enthusiastic, customer focused professional with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail always maintained.
  • Able to quickly handle a high volume of projects that always require safe work habits.
  • Able to thrive in a high-stress and fast-paced environment.
  • If assigned with a company vehicle, must always operate company vehicle in a safe manner and work directly with fleet supervisor for proper maintenance and care.
  • Must have a great attitude and foster an environment of collaboration and teamwork by leading by example


Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift to 25 pounds at a time.
  • Must be 21 years of age (or older) at time of hire.
  • Must wear appropriate PPE at all CCA sites.


Desired:
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with related degree; or Three to Five (3-5) years or more, of related field experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • OSHA (10) or (30) General Industry Certification
  • Prior Cannabis Industry Experience
  • Hazardous Materials and Regulatory Compliance background
  • Spanish language skills
