Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior Environmental Advisor to join the Global Professional Shared Services (PSS) team. The position has a broad scope therefore the successful candidate will be required to be based in one of the following regions: Canada, Central America and South America (no relocation assistance is provided), and must be in proximity to a Wood Office and travel hub.

You will be responsible for overseeing the environmental performance of the business and for developing, implementing, and monitoring environmental strategies that promote sustainable development.

  • Support the collation of carbon data for the business, ensuring compliance with the group Carbon Reporting standard
  • Embed the Environmental Standards across the organization ensuring compliance
  • Responsible for maintaining HSSE networks to effectively deliver and share learnings and best practice internally and externally across Wood in a structured, standard, and auditable manner
  • Support group environmental initiatives (e.g., plastic reduction working group)
  • Identify or create new sustainability indicators with analysis and trending of incident data
  • Ensure lessons learnt from environmental incidents are cascaded across the organization and the wider group
  • Develop sustainability project goals, objectives, initiatives, or strategies in collaboration with other sustainability professionals
  • Assist in evaluation of workplace environments, equipment, and practices for compliance
  • Design and implement Environmental workplace processes and procedures that help protect workers from potentially hazardous work conditions
  • Review CAIRS entries for Environmental incidents, identify trends and support development and communication of proactive initiatives
  • Develop presentation material to support Environmental initiatives
  • Review and revise sustainability proposals or policies.
  • Research or review regulatory, technical, or market issues related to sustainability
  • Identify or investigate non-conformances of natural resources, waste management, recycling, or other environmental policies.
  • Provide technical or administrative support for environmental / sustainability programs or issues
  • Identify or procure needed resources to implement sustainability programs or issues
  • Conduct training on a variety of Environmental topics
  • Verify that the business streams identified and documented its environmental aspects. Environment Impact Register
  • Verify that the business streams have identified and documented relevant legislative requirements that they are required to comply with. (Legal Register)
  • Verify that the business streams have developed an Environmental Management Plan and Program
  • Verify that the business streams have documented roles and responsibilities for identified critical personnel
  • Verify that the roles and responsibilities have been effectively communicated to the identified personnel
  • Verify that the organization has EMS documentation that are: (Detailed and Controlled documents)
  • Monitor or track sustainability initiatives, such as energy usage, natural resource usage, waste generation, and recycling
  • Create outreach media, such as brochures to communicate environmental / sustainability issues, procedures, or objectives.
  • Collect information about waste stream management or green building practices to inform decision-makers
  • Assess or propose sustainability initiatives, considering factors such as cost effectiveness, technical feasibility, and acceptance
  • Verify that the organization has developed action plans and has a process for closing out environmental related action items
  • Create or maintain plans or other documents related to sustainability projects
  • Implement Global Environment strategy and/or programs
  • Publish any environmental related alerts
  • Implement Environmental Campaigns for Business
  • Conduct ISO 14001 audits

  • A Bachelor's Degree in business, environmental sciences, environmental management, engineering, or sustainability, is a plus
  • Experience in sustainability or environmental science is necessary

Knowledge, skills, and experience:
  • Experience working with the ISO 14001 Environmental Management standard
  • Analytical: Ability to assess any inefficiencies in an organization, identify issues quickly and find the most economical path forward
  • Creativity: Innovation to create a greener organization through new innovative ideas applicable to organization and industries

  • Planning and Communication skills are essential to execute the variety of projects, ideas, and strategies on-going with stakeholders, approvers, and business leaders

  • Able to work within a matrix environment to ensure the best outcomes for the business and wider Wood
