Job Summary:

The Microbiologist & Compliance Coordinator is responsible for oversight of the microbiological testing program including testing within the established and defined methodologies and is responsible for communicating results of finished product and environmental monitoring programs for all three HB facilities.

Job Duties:
  • Perform finished product testing for target organisms on samples submitted from the Cookeville, Nampa, and Beloit HB manufacturing facilities.
  • Oversight and continued development of the Environmental Monitoring Program including surface testing within the Nampa, ID facility and sample testing for all three HB facilities. Target organisms may include Salmonella spp., Listeria spp., yeast and mold.
  • Oversight of the calibration program within the Microbiology and Quality Assurance Laboratories. This includes monitoring of equipment calibrations to verify they are being performed correctly, that the equipment is operating correctly within defined parameters, calibrations are performed according to schedule, and submitting equipment for third-party certification as needed.
  • Maintains inventory of Micro Laboratory supplies and ordering quality supplies.
  • Active member of the HACCP & Preventative Controls Food Safety Team to assist in developing and improving our food safety program.
  • Assist in reviewing and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Participates and successfully passes microbiology proficiency testing through the American Proficiency Institute.
  • Management of the Pest Control Program. This includes meeting with the pest control provider to discuss issues and resolve problems and provide supervision during additional treatments (fogging/fumigation).
  • Completes Micro Lab Master Cleaning Schedule.
  • Leads special projects and assists with other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Detailed analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work in cross functional teams.

Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree required in relevant science.
  • A minimum of two (2) to five (5) years similar work experience.
  • Or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to work in a facility that handles allergens including but not limited to: wheat, soy, egg, milk, and tree nuts.
  • Must be able to perform physical requirements of the position including walking, standing, stooping and climbing.
  • Must be able to lift up 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to work in open environments with exposure to pungent odors and varying climates.
