Job Description
Head of Environmental, Health and Safety, North America

Global Pharmaceutical Contract Development and Manufacturing Company has an exciting new opportunity for a NA Head of Environmental, Health and Safety. Company offers a competitive compensation & benefits package.

SCOPE OF THE ROLE:

Responsible for the entire EHS function for the NA, this role will oversee all relevant activities across the North America operations. It will provide focus for all locations on all matters relating to EHS through consultation and cooperation at all levels, setting the direction for leadership and continually improving the EHS management system. The role is central to effective interpretation of legal obligations, establishing EHS organizational arrangements, culture, systems and control standards.

QUALIFICATION:

Relevant Engineering degree (preferably Chemical or Mechanical) or technical based or science degree, with added either of, preferably both CIH & CSP.

EXPERIENCE:

20+ years of total with at least 5-7 years of relevant and demonstrable experience of leading the Environmental, Health and Safety function in a multi-site setting in a chemical or pharmaceutical or FMCG manufacturing environment.

Key Roles/Responsibilities:
  • Implementation of Corporate EHS policies, Standards, Guidelines and requirements through harmonized EHS management system across all North America (NA) sites
  • Having systems in place to ensure full EHS legal compliance at all times at all NA sites, through EHS legal audits.
  • Building/strengthening a strong EHS culture within NA sites.
  • Development, dissemination and driving of the short and long term NA EHS improvement plan with relevant communications and KPI reporting platform.
  • Management of the EHS teams at all NA sites including budget management and appraisal, professional standards and competencies.
  • Management of the Occupational Health Provisions on site including first aid arrangements and risk based health assessment/surveillance strategy.
  • Formulation of EHS requirements and plans, interpretation and compliance with all aspects of the law in the context of the site activities and organization and ensuring that all applicable statutory requirements and duties are being achieved.
  • Profiling and assessing risks related to the site activities and organization for existing operations, new activities or processes together with site emergency arrangements.
  • Measuring performance by assessing how well the risks are being controlled and investigation the causes of accidents, incidents and near misses.
  • Reviewing performance, revisiting plans, and risk assessments to see if they need updating and checking action closure on matters arising from audit and inspection reports.
  • Involvement in establishing organizational arrangements, systems and risk control standards relating to hardware and human performance, by advising line management of matters such as legal and technical standards and training and competency requirements in relation to EHS matters.
  • Establish and maintain procedures, including monitoring and other means such as review and auditing, to ensure that a true picture of EHS management is visible to the leadership team.
  • Involvement in the maintenance of safe and environmentally acceptable operations by reviewing and approving the suitability of risk assessments related to modifications to new and existing processes, materials and equipment whilst preserving line management responsibility for these issues.
  • Provide advice and assistance to other sites within the company on EHS matters.
