The opportunity:
Reporting to the Mill Technical Manager, the Environmental Coordinator is responsible for managing the mill's environmental programs. This includes regulatory training, recordkeeping, reporting, and auditing.
How you will impact WestRock:
· Lead the Mill's environmental team, including the facilitation of a Monthly Environmental Leadership team meeting. Work with the team to proactively develop and achieve environmental goals that mitigate risk, reduce the mill's environmental footprint, improve process efficiency, and align with the overall goals of the organization.
· Interface directly with local regulatory agencies on periodic inspections and other occasions as needed.
· Oversee the mill's waste management program including waste minimization efforts, maintaining up to date waste profiles, ensuring regulatory compliance for waste shipments, and provide oversight of industrial contractors who haul waste.
· Oversee all Title V air program requirements including but not limited to testing, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting activities to ensure continual compliance with the conditions of the permit and applicable rules and regulations.
· Provide oversight and management of the mill wastewater discharge program including review of monthly wastewater reports to ensure compliance with pretreatment standards and permit requirements while providing coordination with the POTW.
· Manage and ensure compliance with the mill's Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) and Storm Water Pollution Prevention (SWPP) Programs.
· Provide management and oversight of contractors supporting activities related to ozone depleting substances.
· Assist in managing the New Chemical Review Program and all mill chemical trials. Evaluate Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) and other pertinent information on all new chemicals brought on site to facilitate proper documentation in the New Chemical Management forms.
· Manage the Mill's New York State Petroleum and Chemical Bulk Storage program requirements for the facility.
· Facilitate data collection efforts, assist in report preparation, and ensure complete and accurate reporting under SARA 311/312/313, GHG (40 CFR 98), and TSCA .
· Maintain tracking and ensure compliance with regulatory obligations for reporting continuous and intermittent releases under CERCLA/SARA
· Help manage the Environmental Training Program. Ensure Mill procedures are up to date and posted on the Mill Web Site. Assign training to new employees. Help develop training materials and teach classes.
· Manage the mill's Product Stewardship certification program, including facilitation of sampling and testing protocols.
· Perform and document various mill environmental compliance inspections. Follow up on improvement opportunities to ensure completion.
· Assist with reviewing capital projects to proactively identify environmental program impacts or permitting requirements.
· Assistance in other areas. Assist or manage projects that may include analytical testing or data analysis, root cause analysis investigations, trials using new equipment or materials, developing new procedures or training materials for any of the environmental compliance areas to improve pollution prevention or operate more efficiently.
What you need to succeed:
· Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering, or Environmental Science.
· Minimum of 3 years' Experience in environmental compliance at a manufacturing facility.
· Proficient computer skills (including MS Office, most importantly Excel and Microsoft Word).
· Willing and able to walk and work in an industrial location indoors or outdoors, including walking up and down steps and ladders with all safety equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, gloves, steel-toed shoes, etc.).
· Eligible to work in the United States.
