Director, Division of Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery

The University of Alabama at Birmingham ( UAB ) School of Medicine at Birmingham, one of the premier medical education, clinical and research-intensive and providers of evidence-based, compassionate patient care schools in the nation, invites applications for the position of Director, Division of Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery.

UAB's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/ GYN ) is aligned and integrated with the medical school and health system, as reflected in its top 10 position in NIH funding, outstanding clinical growth and recognition for clinical excellence, and financial success. The Division of Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery, recognized as one of the top female pelvic medicine divisions in the region and in the country, is one of five that comprises the department. Steeped in UAB's tradition of excellence and strong commitment to providing superb personalized patient care, a deeply enriched education, and cutting-edge research have made it among the best programs of its specialty.

The ideal candidate will be a highly respected active practitioner, possess dynamic education and leadership skills with administrative expertise. In this highly visible role, the new Division Director will have the opportunity to elevate the Department for the next generation of trainees. They will be viewed by all stakeholders as a strong advocate for balancing the clinical, research, and educational missions of the Division. With a focus on expanding and diversifying UAB's services, the Director will serve and champion the Division by recruiting high-impact faculty and trainees, integrating endoscopic training and launching a robotics program, creating new interdisciplinary and translational clinical research programs, and increasing clinical volume, all by leveraging and combining the existing strengths of an already strong Division with the new strategic partnership with Ascension St. Vincent. The new alliance will be both programmatic and operational, to ensure that UAB is the provider of choice in Alabama not only as a referral institution, but also one which further is expanding access to underserved, vulnerable and rural populations.

Qualified candidates are those who hold a medical degree or equivalent; are fellowship-trained and board certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery ( FPMRS ); have acknowledged excellence in the field; are eligible for licensure in the state of Alabama and a faculty appointment at the Associate or Professor level in the University of Alabama School of Medicine.
