AECOM is seeking an Environmental Planner II to be based in our San Jose, CA office.

Responsibilities include but aren't limited to the following:
  • Interprets and applies applicable government codes, ordinances and regulations.
  • Initiates actions necessary to correct deficiencies or violations of regulations.
  • Assists with updates and maintenance of Comprehensive Plan, transportation plan and land development regulations.
  • Acts as a liaison between community groups, government agencies, developers and elected officials in developing neighborhood plans.
  • Conducts review of various development applications, including plats, permits, site plans, variance requests and rezonings.
  • Conducts extensive research in specific or general project areas.
  • Writes and presents formal and technical reports, working papers and correspondence.
  • Identifies community problems, issues and opportunities in particular neighborhoods that could be mitigated through better community planning.
  • Develops long range plans for communities with common developmental issues.
  • Develops strategies to promote economic and community development, or efficient land use consistent with community goals.
  • Evaluates adequacy of community facilities in meeting current and projected needs.
  • Recommends priorities, schedules and funding sources to implement public improvements plan.
  • Supports planning studies and reports for new and updated plans, programs and regulations.
  • Reviews or assists in the review of development proposals and site plans for conformance with codes, plans, policies and regulations.
  • Prepares and presents detailed reports, or coordinates such reports by others, on facility, infrastructure and land use development proposals to government bodies.
  • Collects a variety of published and other vetted data to prepare summaries, reports and maps on topics, such as demography, land use, transportation patterns, water discharge, air emissions, climate change, among others.
  • Assists in preparing federal, state and local permit applications consistent with current regulation and proposed actions.
  • Coordinates community outreach and review of public and private development projects.
  • Provides for the dissemination of information to the public regarding development regulations.
  • Assists in resolving citizen and customer issues.
  • Under direct supervision, conducts field evaluations and assessments.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, architecture, environmental science, transportation, civil engineering, public policy, preservation or related area of study + 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the philosophies, principals, practices and techniques of planning and regulatory compliance (i.e., CEQA/NEPA) is preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills and strong written and oral communication skills are also preferred.
