Job Summary
AECOM Is seeking a Waste Characterization Specialist in Midland MI who will contribute to a technically diverse team that provides on-site consultative support at client facilities. The successful candidate must be able to quickly learn the client's internal processes for waste management and initially works under a peer review process to evaluate performance on assigned tasks.
Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provides technical guidance related to RCRA (40CFR), Waste characterization and Waste regulation in response to client requests.
- Evaluates and responds to client phone calls, e-mail and inquiries about RCRA regulations, Waste Management, Waste Characterization, Waste, TCEQ, RCRA, Lab Packs, analytical requirements, type of waste containers recommended, options for waste disposals sites, etc.
- Confers with the client to obtain accurate and complete information to properly characterize waste.
- Enters data into client-based software which is used to manage waste characterization data.
- Supports regulatory compliance through appropriate documentation for lab packs; waste stream characterization and manifesting by reviewing lab pack forms for correct RCRA classification and assign a proper DOT shipping description.
- Performs waste audits, waste tracking, sampling for waste analysis, develop procedures, and container labeling or placarding.
- Actively participates in maintaining a safe work environment and supporting a culture of safety as evidenced in approach to daily activities and projects.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Science or related field plus four (4) years' experience in classification, packaging, managing, shipping, hazardous and non-hazardous waste in a chemical environment or equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience performing waste characterization profiling or establishing WPN's.
- Knowledgeable of state and federal environmental regulatory framework and processes, specifically RCRA, waste characterization and Waste Regulation, DOT classifications
- valid Driver's license
- Due to nature and location of work, United States Citizenship or Naturalized Citizen
