Responsibilities
Develop Environmental, Safety and Health processes and procedures. Work with the client to develop implementation strategies for these programs.
Coordinate with internal Construction, Operations and Facilities groups to ensure projects are completed in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.
Provide assistance to construction and operational contractors in meeting regulatory and client requirements. Review and provide feedback on contractor hazard assessments.
Advise Senior Leaders on operational and strategic needs.
Develop recommendations for remedial actions when safety policies are not met.
Inspect facilities and projects in order to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
Complete and maintain documented safety observations from regular hazard identification audits.
Investigate accidents, injuries, near misses and occupational diseases to determine root causes, corrective actions and preventive measures.
Develop, implement and maintain safety contingency plans (fires, spills, etc.)
Regularly visit project sites and operational facilities to evaluate and provide feedback on improvement and compliance.
Develop risk assessment methods/systems for anticipating, identifying, and evaluating hazards.
Increase critical hazard awareness with employees and contractors thereby reducing the likelihood of at-risk behaviors.
Perform environmental compliance and due diligence audits to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies.
Conduct audits and monitoring of NPDES and other discharge permits/plans.
Qualifications
United State citizen
Experience with Environmental programs including Air, Water, Chemical and Hazardous Waste Management.
Strong experience in erosion control, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) preferred.
Experience working on Federal Government contracts and military installations.
Experience in environmental safety and health field. Education in Safety, Environmental, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health or related field.
Excellent interpersonal skills and strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to lead individual projects as well as collaborate in contribution to team goals.
Broad ESH background including proficient knowledge of OSHA 1910, 1926, and EM-385 ( Safety & Health requirements for the Army Corps of Engineers) as well as EPA regulations including CAA, CWA, RCRA .
Ability to additional regulatory requirements, interpretations, and technical issues that arise.
Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret regulations and guidelines, and to develop and implement safety, health and environmental programs.
Ability to manage a heavy workload, to manage competing demands on time and resources, and to prioritize effectively.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and to manage multiple projects to completion.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, Outlook).
Preferred:
Degree in occupational health and safety, environmental, or related field.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Registered Environmental Manager (REM), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or other related ESH certification/designation.
Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH) programs, collecting and presenting metrics, conducting inspections/audits and developing ESH training.
Experience coordinating regulatory permits with contractors and internal stakeholders for new and renewal permits, and any required modifications as required by regulations and permit conditions.
Calculate air emissions, determine required control technologies, and document process information to ensure client operations, and work practices are in accordance with all applicable regulations.
Experience using industrial hygiene sampling equipment to effectively conduct comprehensive quantitative assessments of various health hazards.
Clearance: US Citizen, preferred Top Secret or ability to obtain
