WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Environmental Scientist for our Baltimore, MD office. The selected candidate will lead natural resources and ecological technical evaluations/assessments, including, but not limited to, wetland delineations, forest stand delineations/tree surveys, wildlife and biological surveys (including threatened and endangered species), and stream assessment for transportation/infrastructure projects. This position will also be responsible for preparing natural resource technical reports, permit applications, identifying/recommending suitable compensatory mitigation, and coordinating with regulatory agencies. The successful candidate will have demonstrated technical experience in conducting and managing natural resource evaluations/assessments in Maryland. Participation in leading client and agency meetings will be required. Duties and Responsibilities: - Thorough knowledge and implementation of federal and state laws/regulations pertaining to natural resources, including wetlands/streams, floodplains, forests/trees, Chesapeake Bay Critical Area, biological/wildlife habitat/species surveys, and NPDES/MS4 - Possess a command of the latest accepted methodologies for conducting natural resource evaluations, wildlife and biological surveys, such as wetland delineation/functional assessment, forest/tree surveys and habitat/biological assessment, and water quality sampling/ data collection - Serve as a team leader on environmental projects including natural environmental field activities, biological/wildlife surveys, data collection, management, and providing technical direction and oversight of other scientists' technical activities - Develop and manage scopes of work, man-hour estimates and task budgets - Preparing technical reports and basic graphics using GIS and other software, and QA/QC project documents - Regularly present to/interface with clients and regulatory/resource agencies Talent is the essence of meeting our client's objectives, goals and challenges. Job Requirements

> Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or related discipline; Master's Degree preferred - 7+ years of experience conducting natural resource assessments and biological/wildlife surveys for transportation, energy or linear infrastructure projects - Active Professional Certification highly desirable such as Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or Qualified Professional (QP) - Thorough knowledge and demonstrated experience in navigating the environmental permit process for wetlands/waterways, tree/forests, and Chesapeake Bay Critical Area permits/approvals - Working knowledge of GIS applications and MS Office applications - Experience developing scopes and cost estimates, the ability to demonstrate a record of understanding, and adhering to project scope, schedules, and budgets - Excellent analytical, problem-solving time management, and written and oral communication skills - The ability to travel to project sites to support business needs - The ability to work independently and as part of a team and be comfortable in both field and office environments - Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures - Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies Preferred Qualifications: - MicroStation/AutoCAD experience - Permitting Expertise in MD, VA, DE About WSP USA WSP USA is the U.S. operating company of one of the world's leading engineering and professional services firms.
