When you're part of the team at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you'll do important work, like helping customers in finding cures for cancer, protecting the environment or making sure our food is safe. Your work will have real-world impact, and you'll be supported in achieving your career goals.
This scientist will support a team that develops next-generation solutions and integrated applications using a wide array of Thermo Fisher Scientific products to support customer driven projects and internal applications. The work will support three principal activities: to develop new tools and solutions pertaining to drug discovery and cell therapy, to exemplify how to use our tools to ask broad scientific questions, to help create customized solutions for our clients.
Projects may include, but not limited to a variety of microarray and qPCR based methods, cell line generation and engineering, cell culture, molecular biology and virus generation. These projects may be driven by internal project design or by external collaborations.
How will you make an impact?
The successful individual will directly interact with junior and senior R&D staff, project management and external collaborators to understand or develop workplans. The scientist will then be responsible for executing plans either independently or as part of a team in order to meet agreed upon deliverables and timelines. Designated activities will require a certain level of independence but may also be in support of senior scientists. In addition, this scientist will be expected to participate in laboratory maintenance.
What will you do?
Cell culture (culture of many cell types, feeding, passaging, cryopreservation)
Gene expression analysis (qPCR and/or microarray analysis of cells)
Virus generation (culture of virus producing cells, transfection, virus harvest, titer)
Stable cell line generation (transfection and antibiotic-selection)
Molecular biology (CRISPR, sequencing and TaqMan® PCR)
Lab maintenance (ordering, instrument maintenance, lab organization)
How will you get here?
Education
- Bachelor's degree in related field.
Experience
- 1-3 years experience in an academic or industry environment
- Perform standard laboratory math calculations and solutions/media preparation
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Molecular biology techniques including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, sequencing
