Computational Biologist I (Bioinformatics) (Carlsbad, CA)

Active Motif, Inc. is a privately held biotechnology company focused on supplying innovative kits and reagents for epigenetics and nuclear function research. Active Motif's services group performs specialized epigenetics-based experiments for leading academic groups and pharmaceutical companies and is seeking a Computational Biologist to join our team.

The Computational Biologist will interact directly with customers and support our epigenetics services and R&D teams at our Carlsbad facility to analyze genome-wide data sets, and report to the Director of Bioinformatics.

What's the Job all About?

Responsibilities
  • Provide bioinformatic support to our epigenetics services and R&D team with genome-wide analysis of data sets such as ChIP-Seq, ATAC-Seq, RNA-Seq, HiC, DNA methylation, and single-cell assay analysis
  • Interact directly with customers and internal collaborators to help them understand and interpret analysis results using available and sometimes novel bioinformatics methods
  • Support the improvement and maintenance of current analysis pipelines, and the development of pipelines for new services
  • Proactively offer solutions and new computational analysis strategies for novel Epigenomic techniques and data presentation

  • Proficient in Perl, R, and shell scripting
  • High attention to detail and scientific and technical problem solving
  • Professional written and verbal communication
  • Highly organized with maintenance and delivery of large and complex data sets
  • Knowledge of Next-Gen sequencing pipelines and Epigenomics

Required Experience
  • PhD. graduate level training in bioinformatics, computational biology or biology related fields with significant bioinformatics experience
  • Experience in Epigenetics and gene regulation
  • Expert knowledge of current bioinformatics/genomics/proteomics resources and open-source tools
  • Experience maintaining and managing a code repository is a plus
