The Senior Biologist is responsible for performing a variety of complex laboratory procedures to develop stem cell products, models, and standards for life science research. With guidance from the supervisor, the Senior Biologist will be expected to be able to design and perform experiments as assigned, interpret results and develop weekly experimental plans based on results obtained.

The Senior Biologist will also perform routine maintenance of laboratory supplies and equipment. Performance will be evaluated with respect to the quality and rigor of project execution, adherence to timeline, productivity and contribution to team and organizational goals. The Senior Biologist supports and complies with all ATCC corporate policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for execution of product development related activities in the Stem Cell biology Team including expansion, differentiation and cryopreservation of a wide variety of human and animal stem cells, optimization of cell growth condition and development of cell-based assays.
  • Responsibilities includes feasibility testing, development, and troubleshooting.
  • Development of robust SOPs for tech transfer of new and/or improved methods to Operations and support of projects through successful tech transfer.
  • Develops appropriate application data to support posters at scientific conferences, webinars, website content, IP filings and other needs, as appropriate.
  • Reads and understands relevant scientific literature and brings new product development ideas into the pipeline.
  • Will support product development Core Teams.
  • May informally mentor or supervise junior staff.
  • Manage activities efficiently and effectively to meet program timelines and performance requirements in alignment with team and corporate goals.

  • Education and Experience:
    • A Bachelor's degree in a science related field plus 4-8 years of relevant experience required OR
    • A Master's degree in a science related field plus 3-5 years of relevant experience required.
    • Experience in expansion, characterization and cryopreservation of human or animal cell lines is required.
    • Experience in handling stem cells and testing or optimizing media and growth conditions is preferred.
    • Prior experience in developing commercial products is highly desirable.


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Ability to efficiently multi-task and appropriately prioritize projects.
    • Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy, strong project planning and time management skills.
    • Hands-on experience in handling human or animal cell lines including the ability to characterize cells and perform cell-based assays.
    • Ideal candidate will have working expertise in stem cell culturing, differentiation and characterization.
    • Strong work ethic and an attitude of personal ownership, leadership and accountability for the success of a program.
    • Seeks, learns, and applies new skills/knowledge to perform job responsibilities.
    • Strong problem-solving skills to identify, evaluate and correct potential problems early.
    • Self-starter, motivated and focused; ability to work independently as well as part of a team effort.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including excellent listening skills and presentation skills to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively.
    • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office and other scientific software.
    • Adaptable; be able to shift priorities and focus as departmental and/or business demands change including, but not limited to early/late hours and/or weekend hours.
    • Follow all company safety practices, SOPs and policies.
