Saint-Gobain Research North America located in Northborough (MA) is looking for a motivated and talented researcher with excellent communication skills to join our current team. The candidate will be expected to conduct and lead R&D based projects focused on the improvement of materials and processes to develop high performance innovative Abrasive based products as required by our Saint-Gobain High Performance Solutions Division. In close collaboration with R&D colleagues, Product Managers, Product Engineers, Application Engineers, and External Customers, the candidate will spend her/his time at creating and executing project plans, designing and conducting experiments, analyzing and present data in written and oral format. Candidate is also expected to propose innovative projects and programs vital to the R&D team mission of developing new innovative products.
The candidate will be expected to lead R&D projects in the areas of Organic Bonded Abrasives and to be a proactive agent of the problem solving culture defining the Abrasive organization. More specifically, the candidate will
- Extensively utilizes broad expertise in the development of composite materials and manufacturing processes to develop new abrasive products and to improve existing abrasive products by increasing performance and/or reducing costs and/or maximizing production.
- Clearly defines the associated tasks and milestones for each projects under his/her supervision, proposes technical approaches, cost estimates, and time schedules.
- Efficiently manages multiple projects simultaneously, on time, well documented and within budget to meet business and customer objectives using Stage/Gate Process methodology.
- Ensure that intellectual property is captured and protected through proper procedures.
- Clearly communicate technically to diverse stakeholders and external customers.
- Demonstrates open and collaborative approach in all areas of responsibility.
- Seeks out others to enhance and streamline development and decision making.
- Stays aware of new abrasive technology applications and competitive uses of same in work with materials, products and processes, and in development of new knowledge.
- Requires minimal assistance and guidance on administrative and technical aspects of role.
- Continuously and reliably carries projects through to completion with little assistance from supervisor
- Able to communicate and use business language in an industrial environment and coordinate with plant operations. Attend field tests.
- Continually champion efforts to drive HSE environmen consciousness in the organization.
BS Degree with a minimum of 7+ years' experience, or MS with 3+ years of experience, or entry level PhD in Material Science, Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering or other related disciplines.
R&D experience in formulation, characterization, and processing of composite materials in industrial environment preferred
