Job Description
Purpose of the Role:

The Plant Health Specialist position inspects plant material, identifies problems and options for treating or preventing health concerns of trees and shrubs. The role functions as a subject matter advisor in the management of pest, disease, physical, and cultural conditions in woody landscape plants. The work may be accomplished independently or as part of a team and responsibilities include client communication.

Essential Functions of the Role:
  • ? Monitor, diagnose and treat pest, disease, physical, and cultural conditions associated with trees and shrubs on designated client properties.
  • ? Provide clients written diagnostic reports detailing: plant hosts; pest, disease, physical, and cultural conditions; available control measures.
  • ? Converse with clients in a professional manner to provide additional information, answer questions and ensure targeted solutions are successful.
  • ? Communicate frequently with field crews and contribute to positive teamwork environment.
  • ? Implement Integrated Pest Management practices on client properties.
  • ? Complete reports on computer tablets and provide feedback to the responsible Arborist detailing:

    problems cited, actions taken, and results achieved.
  • ? Participate in meetings and debriefs with Managers and other specialists related to productivity,

    safety (including regulatory compliance), and quality.
  • ? Maintain all working aspects of the Plant Health Care truck which includes: proper operation of

    truck and components, routine maintenance and repair of equipment, performing daily pre and post trip inspections, writing up repairs as needed, and daily maintenance of 5S organization system.
  • ? Load, handle, mix and apply safely all technical materials per SavATree procedures and label directions accordingly to meet all local, state, and Federal regulations.
  • ? Drive company vehicles, navigate using maps and GPS for routes and operate equipment safely.
  • ? Maintain proper inventories of materials and supplies needed for daily operations.
  • ? Work efficiently and productively on a daily basis meeting established key performance indicators

    (KPIs). Demonstrate flexibility regarding work hours and days based on weather events.
  • ? Understand and implement spill containment and clean-up procedure including following safety

    protocols for reporting any accidents and follow up accordingly for root cause analysis and shared

    learning opportunities.
  • ? Maintain compliance with all Federal, State, and local laws and regulations as well as company

    policies.
  • ? Work in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.
  • ? Contribute to continuous improvement culture as defined by Lean Sigma policies and procedures.
  • ? Keep informed of new knowledge and practices in the plant health care industry.
  • ? Progress through the Self-Directed Advancement Program (SDAP) for team members and obtain

    required certifications.









Decision Making Authority:

? Autonomy based on experience, as needed coordinate with Operations or Branch Manager.

Working Relationships:

Internal: Branch Manager, Operations Manager, Office Manager, Field Specialists, Routing, Fleet Maintenance, and Sales Arborists

External: Clients, Vendors

Qualifications for this Role:
  • ? Associate or Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University in Arboriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Biology, Plant Science, Environmental Sciences, or a relevant experience.
  • ? Obtain and possess current pesticide certifications as required by governing state's laws.
  • ? Possess a valid driver's license to operate motor vehicle in governing state.
  • ? Ability to obtain a DOT medical card to drive a commercial vehicle
  • ? Minimum of 21 years of age
  • ? Minimum 2 years of experience in pesticide application.
  • ? Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • ? Efficiency in working independently or with a team.
  • ? Proficient with computer programs including Microsoft Office suite.
  • ? Excellent verbal and written communication skills with customer service focus.
  • ? Problem solving skills to apply knowledge to specific situations and identify appropriate solutions.

    Physical Environment:

    Field and traditional office environment.

    Physical Demands:

    Must be able to sit and navigate/use computer system. The physical environment requires working both inside and outside in all weather conditions on commercial and residential properties. Activities include balance, bending, climbing, and kneeling. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials. Handling and mixing of pesticides and herbicides may be required. Activities include small tool and equipment repair and maintenance. May be requested to work overtime and weekends.
