Iowa Western is currently seeking an experienced instructor qualified to teach Biology courses. This position will be responsible for delivering all levels of Biology classes as assigned by the Academic Dean. Must be willing to teach a variety of methodologies: face-to-face, on-line, hybrid and video conferencing. Must be flexible in teaching to center locations when required. This instructor will also be responsible for course instruction and classroom management. Duties include, but are not limited to, teaching classroom and laboratory sessions, curriculum development/restructuring, committee assignments, student academic advising, student recruitment, assessment of student learning, responsibility for materials and supplies, and budget management. All candidates interviewed will be required to provide a teaching demonstration.
Required Qualification
Possess a Master's degree in Biology, or related field required with 18 credit hours of coursework in Biology and at least 6 credit hours emphasis on Anatomy and Physiology. Other relevant qualifications include an advanced degree to practice medicine with foundational graduate coursework in Anatomy and Physiology, such as D.O., D.D.S., D.C.M, D.P.T, D.V.M, M.D., M.S.N, M.P.H, N.P, P.A, or M.S. in Kinesiology.
Experience must include previous teaching experience of lab science with demonstrated laboratory skills. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills. Effective organizational skills, particularly as they relate to the student-learning process. Capable of creating and maintaining a classroom environment which is conducive to student learning. Computer experience in common software and Internet. Commitment to cultural diversity among students and faculty.
Preferred Qualification
Candidate must be student-focused and willing to work in the online environment utilizing technology and learning resources adopted to support student success. Proven ability to collaborate with faculty and staff.
Physical Demands
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, use hands to operate a computer keyboard, telephone and other basic office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear and use a phone, and some travel, by vehicle, may be required. Reading, writing, calculating, social interaction skills, strong management and organizational skills, reasoning/analysis, ability work with minimal supervision, high degree of problem-solving, decision-making, and high degree of interpersonal skills is required. Work is routinely performed in an office environment.
