On-Call Desert Tortoise Biologist
POWER Engineers' Environmental Division provides planning, permitting, engineering, site assessment and corrective action services to clients worldwide. Across multiple industries, our diverse staff specialize in the areas of air, water, waste, ecological and cultural resources throughout our 45 offices located across the country and internationally.
We are seeking a temporary, on-call Desert Tortoise Biologist for our Western Biology Department working out of our Las Vegas, Nevada office. The selected candidates will join a team of more than 230 environmental professionals across the U.S.
Roles and responsibilities
As a Desert Tortoise Biologist, you will support and help build the environmental project team focused on transmission lines, renewable energy, oil and gas pipelines, environmental surveys, NEPA analyses, and permitting services. Responsibilities will include supporting a biological field survey effort in Nevada in addition to other potential biological surveys throughout the western U.S. Responsibilities will also include environmental compliance monitoring on construction projects.
The position will be filled by a detail-oriented candidate, with a demonstrated ability to work independently. An established and successful history completing biological survey efforts is desired for this candidate. The candidate must have the experience to complete biological field surveys for desert tortoise. Priority will be given to candidates who have been an Authorized Biologist on previous projects. While much of the work for this position is in the field, effective communication skills are important for success in this role.
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality and professionalism
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Substantial biological field survey knowledge
- Experience with U.S. Fish and Wildlife desert tortoise survey protocols is preferred
- Must be able to work in remote conditions and independently
