Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist (2101151) - Clemson, SC
Where the Chemistry Happens
We are seeking a professional like you to serve as Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Environmental Specialist at the Clemson, SC chemical manufacturing facility. You will be the direct support of all aspects of the site EHS Program. The BASF Clemson site is located in the lakes and mountains region of Upstate South Carolina and close to Greenville.
In this role, you will support the Clemson site for environmental, health and safety (EHS) activities and serve as the site Medical Coordinator. You will report to the Clemson Site Manager as a member of the Site Leadership Team with a dotted line to the Performance Materials EHS Functional Team Leader. You will also be a member of the Performance Materials EHS Community and will interact with EHS experts and professionals who support BASF's North American sites and businesses. The primary environmental areas of focus include maintaining compliance with the site's Title V air permit, Conditional Major air permit, NPDES and hazardous waste programs. Other program areas include SWPPP, SPCC and EPCRA/SARA reporting compliance. Key focus safety areas include leading responsible management of corporate, federal, state and local programs.

- Your unwavering commitment to compliance will be evident as you provide technical and regulatory expertise to ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety requirements and continuous improvements of EHS programs.
- Leveraging your education in Engineering or Science and your experience as an EHS professional or in a manufacturing role with EHS responsibilities, you will provide strategic direction to site and BASF leadership on EHS issues and opportunities.
- Your experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis will be essential as you participate in or lead project reviews, process hazard analyses, change management processes and incident investigations.
- Utilizing your solid analytical and computer skills, you will ensure all internal and external reporting requirements are met. You will also recommend efficiency and reliability improvements to the data generation and reporting process in partnership with operations to optimize available systems and technology.
- Successfully engaging within the organization, you will lead and/or participate on EHS work teams or task forces and work with other EHS experts in the organization on the development of company-wide processes and initiatives to ensure continuous EHS improvement.
- As a subject matter expert on environmental, health and safety topics, you will provide training content, and where appropriate, deliver training, coaching or employee orientation. You will also use your expertise to facilitate the sharing of programs, procedures, tools, and successfully demonstrated practices across the BASF EHS organization.
- Demonstrating your strong knowledge of environmental, health, safety (EHS) regulations as they apply to manufacturing environments, you will support the interface with regulatory agencies and third parties, as needed, on compliance and enforcement issues.
- Demonstrating your commitment to BASF corporate initiatives, you will assist with the implementation of BASF's Responsible CareĀ® Management Systems (RCMS) including, but not limited to, Control of Hazardous Energy - Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Hot Work, Fall Protection, Powered Industrial Trucks, and Hazard Communication.
- As a role model and through collaboration with operators in the process areas, you will reinforce a culture of behavior-based safety and support emergency response activities.
- As a trusted advisor, you will work with management on identified safety issues / recommendations / opportunities to foster continuous improvement of EHS programs and culture.
