The role proactively supports Lufkin's strategy to zero environmental incidents as the Environmental Specialist. This position will be located in Houston TX. The role will report to the Compliance and Programs HSE Manager.


Environmental SPOC (Single Point of Contact) (80%):
  • Member of the HSE Compliance and Programs Team responsible for developing and implementing policies, procedures, projects, and processes in support of the companies environmental strategies, including but not limited to: multi-media compliance, waste management, pollution prevention and waste minimization, permitting assistance, hazardous materials, UST/AST compliance, environmental due diligence and remediation and assistance with other general environmental tasks.
  • Develop Corporate Environmental Initiatives.
  • Develop and Measure key metrics that drive the effectiveness of environmental compliance assurance company wide.
  • Develops HSE strategies to fill compliance and performance gaps.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with internal partners to identify the current state of Environmental performance, risks, issues, and needs.
  • Interfaces with industry and environmental groups and regulatory agencies to keep current on the changes developing in the regulations and legislation.
  • Other duties may include conducting training and auditing, providing technical advice to operations and frontline HSE personnel, interpretation of data, standards, codes, and regulations.

HSE Project Team support (20%)
  • Work with Global HSE team members and cross-functionally in the development and implementation of the health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure compliance with regulatory statutes, rules / regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Supports the development and implementation of the Global HSE Management System,
  • Design and implement a continuous improvement process into the Environmental Specialist roles and responsibilities.

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role
  • In depth knowledge of regulatory requirements, interpretations, and health and safety programs.
  • Aptitude to solve problems quickly.
  • Excellent written, communication skills and project management skills are a must.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the working time.
  • Ability to influence, inspire and motivate people who are not directly under her/his responsibility.
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic thinking capability.
