The Post Doctoral Fellow helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.

Minimum Qualifications: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.

The Kasturi Lab in the Department of Experimental Pathology at the Emory School of Medicine and Yerkes National Primate Research Center is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Scientist to lead a NIH-funded project investigating novel adjuvants and immunological mechanisms that promote long-lived HIV specific immune responses. The goal of this and other work in the lab is to systematically, investigate novel Alum and TLR-agonist based adjuvants with new HIV-1 immunogens in non-human primates and mice. By carefully understanding innate responses and B cell differentiation induced by these adjuvants, we aim to gather knowledge and down select the best candidate that promotes bonafide mucosal immunity in humans. Adjuvant mechanisms will be investigated with cutting edge techniques (collaborative) such as multi-color flow cytometry, serum proteomics, single cell RNA seq and antibody repertoire sequencing.

Preferred/Desired Quals:

Ph.D. in immunology, molecular biology, or related field.

Strong background in immunology, vaccinology, molecular biology and experience with animal studies. Candidates with backgrounds in bio-engineering, pharmaceutical sciences are welcome to apply as well. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
