Title: Associate Director, Pluripotent Stem Cell Biology

Location: Waltham, MA

Reports to: Director, Regenerative Medicine

The Role:

ElevateBio is actively recruiting an Associate Director, Pluripotent Stem Cell Biology. This individual will report to the Director, Regenerative Medicine and will possess excellent scientific/technical skills. This person will lead an R&D team focused on establishing hypoimmunogenic iPSC lines for the development of iPSC-derived cell therapies.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team focused on the development and characterization of hypoimmunogenic iPSCs
  • Contribute to strategy for generating hypoimmunogenic iPSCs
  • Collaborate with editing team to generate genetically modified iPSC lines
  • Design and oversee the execution of in vitro and in vivo immunogenicity studies to characterize the interaction between immune system and iPSCs/derivatives
  • Manage CROs for outsourced in vivo research activities, including study design, monitoring, and data analysis
  • Interact closely with project teams and represent Regenerative Medicine group in cross-functional team forums
  • Communicate program progress and issues to senior management, to regulatory agencies as necessary, and at national and international conferences as appropriate


Requirements:
  • PhD with 8+ years of relevant experience in pluripotent stem cells and/or transplant immunology
  • 5+ years of industry experience leading teams of at least 3 scientists
  • Expertise in transplant immunology and immune-evasion strategies for allogeneic cell therapies
  • Experience with in-vitro immunology workflows including cytotoxicity assays, cytokine profiling, proliferation assays, flow cytometry, ELISA and ELISpot
  • Strong knowledge of in vivo immunogenicity assessment employing syngeneic and allogeneic hosts
  • Demonstrated experience in stem cell biology including reprogramming, iPSC characterization and differentiation
  • Experience with humanized mouse models and managing a CRO
  • Experience with gene editing is a plus
  • Highly adaptable and responsive, and committed to completing tasks in a timely fashion
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic environment as a team player with a strong work ethic
  • Excellent team player with good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including supporting documentation in laboratory notebooks and study reports for regulatory filing activities
