UT Southwestern Medical Center is accepting applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

UT Southwestern Medical Center is one of the premier academic medical centers in the nation, especially well-known for the quality of its science, and fundamentally committed to integrating pioneering biomedical research with exceptional clinical care and education. The medical center's faculty includes many distinguished scientists; among them are 25 members of the National Academy of Sciences, 17 members of the National Academy of Medicine, and 13 Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigators. Since 1985, six members of the UTSW faculty have been recipients of Nobel Prizes.

Established in 1943 as a small private medical school by a group of leading Dallas citizens, UT Southwestern has grown to employ more than 18,800 people, with an operating budget in excess of $3.4 billion. The campus is located 10 minutes from downtown Dallas and is part of the 1,000-plus-acre Southwestern Medical District. UTSW facilities occupy 14 million square feet, with another 2.7 million square feet under construction.

Now comprising three schools, UTSW has grown into a thriving academic medical center with an international reputation for exemplary research in conjunction with robust educational and training programs, and a rapidly expanding clinical enterprise dedicated to excellence in the care it delivers. As a public entity, UTSW enjoys support from the state of Texas for its academic missions, as well as philanthropic support from the Dallas-Fort Worth community.

The Chair will have responsibility for more than 100 faculty members across 8 divisions and will play a strategic role in advancing the mission, operations, and service of the department within UT Southwestern Medical School.

The next chair will have the opportunity to build on the department's outstanding teaching, research, and clinical programs. The chair is expected to implement a strategy that supports the recruitment of diverse, high-caliber faculty and trainees, who will enhance scientific advances, pursue excellence in undergraduate and graduate medical education, and sustain clinical operations consistent with UTSW's position as one of the nation's top academic medical institutions. Increasing the department's success rate in National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other clinical and translational research funding is a high priority for this important leadership position.

The ideal candidate will be a nationally recognized basic, translational, or clinical research physician leader who has a demonstrated track record of excellence in leading and building clinical, research, and/or educational programs; specifically, academic and scholarly accomplishments commensurate with the criteria for appointment at the academic rank of full Professor at UTSW. An M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) is required as well as eligibility for Texas Medical Licensure.
